  1. "#Democrats in #Maine do not want their candidates chosen by the Democractic establishment." Amen to that! (Stated by a Maine political pundit tonight.)

  2. I am tired of the construct of a business. I think the #socialists really are on to something. The problem in the US (and those that care are gravely realizing this sad reality) is that half the country is full of idiots who don't care about what makes technology work. They also happen to not care who they vote for, either.

Capitalistic business creation through the publicly traded model is one of the most gawd-awful inventions created by white men, next to pervasive AI used in both government and business.

    news.slashdot.org/story/26/04/

There is a news report out somewhere that reports *the creation of publicly traded companies is significantly down in the US.* I think that this is really good news. We need more private profit enterprises because the public kind are steaming piles of you know what.

Most modern companies are basically not a lot more than something useless that all of the idiots enjoy calling useful. Companies primarily exist to fatten the pockets of their CEOs and those participating in stock buybacks and, at the same time, make workers trudge under total misery in the cubicles — who work for peanuts to make inferior digital products that don't do a lot other than have embedded advertising in them to try and sell us on more commercial stuff.

Hey all of you #geniuses majoring in #economics and any new economics majors who are about to cut your teeth on the business propaganda of the day: Do you see yet why this model is fading fast? Nobody wants it around. It's a holdover from "plantation capitalism" which was dreamed up during the 19th century to justify making slaves work for nothing.

Today we have mental slavery and it's impossible to combat at the personal level. So if we don't work together to overthrow this regime we will probably be stuck this way for hundreds of years.

PS - Here is that article I referenced regarding the demise of publicly traded companies in the USA: washingtonpost.com/opinions/20

Goddamit, it's such a shame to see Yanis Varoufakis simping for putin.

#europe has not "decided" to treat putin as "the new Hitler". putin decided to be the new Hitler.
When bad people tell you who they are, you have to listen, putins rambling 2-3 hour speeches clearly spell out his ambitions. Enslave the countries of #easterneurope . His TV puppets go even further, wishing #russian tanks to keep going until stop in #Barcelona Thanks to Euro support, it's russian quad bikes and donkeys, not tanks now.

#yanisvaroufakis is a smart man, so he knows this. As does Europe, they understand the "forever war" is a war of choice for putin. If #ukraine falls, #baltics will be next.

Why do some #socialists simp for a totalitarian satrap I'll never understand.

    Fuck Varoufakis.

Edit: God, the more you read of that Varoufakis drivel, the more you realise he's just a putins whore (with apologies to hard working sex workers).
I'm so glad I did not end up buying his books.

    How to Read the Genealogy

    1. Rousseau & Romanticism — the emotional and moral root system

Rousseau and the early Romantic movement sit at the same level because they are essentially two expressions of the same worldview. Rousseau provides the philosophical core; Romanticism turns it into a cultural force.

Together they supply the soil from which later ideologies grow:

    • authenticity over rationalism
    • the natural self as morally pure
    • suspicion of civilisation and modernity
    • the heroic individual
    • the Volk as an organic cultural community (Johann Gottfried Herder’s contribution)
    • emotion as a guide to truth

This is the pre‑ideological foundation that later thinkers will systematise, politicise, or weaponise.

    2. Kant — the bridge from Romantic sentiment to philosophical structure

Immanuel Kant is not a Romantic, but he provides the crucial intellectual machinery that makes German Idealism possible:

    • the transcendental subject
    • the limits of empirical reason
    • the autonomy of the moral will
    • the distinction between appearance and reality

Kant gives later thinkers the architecture they need to turn Romantic intuitions into philosophical systems.

    3. Fichte & Early German Idealism — the nationalist and voluntarist turn

Fichte stands at the same level as Early German Idealism because he is its first full expression. He radicalises Kant and fuses him with Romantic nationalism.

    Fichte introduces:

    • the self (“I”) as world‑creating
    • struggle as the engine of moral development
    • the State as educator and moral shaper
    • the Volk as a spiritual community defined by language and culture
    • the idea that national unity is a moral imperative

This is why the National Socialists later mined him so heavily: he provides a philosophical justification for unity, struggle, and State supremacy without the Marxist baggage attached to Hegel.

    4. Schelling — the Romantic metaphysician

Schelling blends Romanticism and Idealism into a metaphysics of nature:

    • nature as living Spirit
    • the unity of mind and world
    • the aesthetic as a path to truth

He is the bridge between Fichte’s voluntarism and Hegel’s system‑building.

    5. Hegel — the system‑builder of history and the State

Hegel takes the entire Romantic–Idealist inheritance and turns it into a grand historical machine:

    • the dialectic
    • Spirit unfolding through conflict
    • history as rational development
    • the State as the embodiment of ethical life
    • freedom as recognition within institutions

Hegel is the pivot point. From him, the ideological branches diverge.

    • Marx takes Hegel’s dialectic and flips it upside down: materialism instead of Spirit, class instead of consciousness.
    • National Socialists reject Hegel because Marx used him, turning instead to Fichte and Herder.
    • Fascists borrow the Romantic–voluntarist elements (myth, will, unity) without the metaphysical system.

    6. The Three Ideological Descendants

    Marxism

    • class struggle
    • materialism
    • historical determinism
    • the dialectic inverted
    • the State as instrument of class rule

Marxism is Hegel without Spirit, Romanticism without the individual, and Fichte without the nation.

    National Socialism

    • racial struggle
    • Volk as biological destiny
    • State supremacy
    • unity through exclusion
    • Fichtean nationalism + Herderian cultural unity

Nazism is Fichte radicalised, Herder racialised, and Romanticism weaponised.

    Fascism

    • myth
    • will
    • unity
    • anti‑liberal modernism
    • the State as a living organism

Fascism is Romanticism without Rousseau, Fichte without metaphysics, and Hegel with the “correct” dialectic.

    7. The Big Picture

All three ideologies — Marxism, National Socialism, and Fascism — draw from the same Romantic–Idealist well, but each selects different ingredients:

    • Marxism takes Hegel’s dialectic and Rousseau’s egalitarian moralism.
    • National Socialism takes Fichte’s nationalism and Herder’s Volk metaphysics.
    • Fascism takes Romantic will, myth, and the unified State.

They are siblings, not strangers — born from the same intellectual family, but raised in different political households.

  8. Why Isn’t News of #Trump Building Vast #ConcentrationCamps Being Treated as a #NationalEmergency?

History shows us that once a nation builds a #MassDetention apparatus, it never remains limited to its original targets. Wake up, people.

    by #ThomHartmann, Feb 05, 2026

Excerpt: "The British originated the term '#ConcentrationCamp' to describe facilities where '#rebel' or 'undesirable' civilians were held in #SouthAfrica during the #SecondAngloBoerWar (1899–1902) to control and punish a #rebellious population.

"They were facilities where the 'bad elements of society' were 'concentrated' into one location so they could be easily controlled and would lose access to society and thus could not spread their messages of #resistance against the #BritishEmpire.

"Future generations of Americans—our children and grandchildren—won’t ask us whether #ICE followed civil detention statutes: they’ll want to know why we allowed concentration camps to exist in America at all.

"The Germans adopted the term in 1933 when #Hitler took power and created his first camp for #communists, #socialists, #UnioLleaders, and, by the end of the year, Hitler’s #PoliticalOpponents. They Germanized the phrase into '#Konzentrationslager' and referred to the process of their incarceration as 'protective custody.'

"The first camp was built at #Dachau just weeks after Hitler became Chancellor in 1933, and by the end of the year there were around 70 of them operating across the country."

  9. @Paxil

Well, if you want change, a good first step is "be honest". Take monopolies, for example; the true monopolists are #socialists. They want a single owner, a single supplier, of all things; the government. Capitalists, on the other hand, support free markets, which essentially never result in #monopoly. Even the commonly cited "monopolies" (which almost never actually are monopolies) that exist now almost always rely on government help to operate.

  10. @ericbalduin

Of course, any actual #capitalist takes exactly zero issue with this man, or anyone else, feeding the homeless. It's about the purest possible example of a "free market". It's not capitalists arresting this man, it's the state. You know; the group that #socialists want to put in charge of...well, everything).

  24. Prior to WWI, if the nation was at least mostly a representative democracy, the majority of #socialists and #anarchists were #pacifists . Unless there was no democratic method to achieve #Socialism or #anarchism, most believed they could make it happen over time using education with a freedom of the press and then enough voters would make it happen.
This ended when the most conservative wing of the party, the social democrats in Germany and other nations had just recently gotten the right to have a political party and they didn't want to be viewed as unpatriotic, so they voted for #WWI . The majority of leftists viewed the war as a war between monarchs that would decimate the working class. Which it very much did.
But the social democrats voted them into a bloody pointless war that wrecked Europe as the most expensive royal family feud in modern history. It is unknown whether this shaped Lenin's view of things but he didn't overthrow the czar, he overthrew an elected but dysfunctional government where a large minority were some flavor of leftist who voted to keep the war going, instead of try to end it, like what Lenin did.
Sadly Lenin and Trotsky were a complete outsiders to aristocratic negotiation and were utterly humiliated by their former German allies when thy tried to get the country out of the alliance causing them to lose 1/3rd of the Russian territory. They were only lucky they got it back at the end of the war as part of the deal was that Germany return all of their seized land including their colonies.
The world powers then helped back and fund the monarchist white army causing a civil war in Russia, including some US troops being deployed to help them fight by Wilson though the deployment was less than a year.
This impacted Lenin and #Trotsky deeply making them more paranoid and less trustful of foreign governments because they had never been given any good reasons to do so and the rest of the world tried to flood the nation with propaganda, funded by monarchies and giant corporations, so #Lenin and later #Stalin cracked down on the freedom of the press.
Nothing Lenin or Trotsky did were in a vacuum and everything they did made logical reasoning based on the world at the time. Sadly that set the #USSR for the rise of Stalin making it an authoritarian nation until his death on a level never seen before in modern history.

'At the same time, the convention showed an organization pulled in two directions — responding to the shifts in consciousness around Palestinian liberation, yet being tethered to a strategy that operates within the limits set by the Democratic Party. For instance, the convention voted down a resolution for a single secular Palestinian state, and turned away from formal alignment with BDS — positions that would have placed DSA too openly against the politics of the Democratic Party. Yet in contradiction, they also passed new rules requiring candidates to support BDS and cut ties with Zionist lobbies — an uneasy compromise that captures both the break and its limits.'

  31. @Quasit

Not really, no. Of course, just replace "one company" with "the government", and your first two claims are the explicit goals of the #socialist.

Like I've said before, #socialists are the ultimate #monopolists; there is no greater #monopoly than the government owning all the means of production; AKA, #socialism.

  32. Any farmer who wants a communist-socialist cash payout must agree to quit the anti-socialist GOP and join the DSA Democratic Socialists of America at minimum $10/ month for 5 years ($600, far less than they'll get in subsidies). Walk the walk, y'all...

  33. I'm fascinated by Plato's theories... Could we function without rulers? Or is the solution with folks who have solutions and are thinking about the future without material connections? Hmmmm... Anything is better than the #ShipOfFools!

#Plato on #Democracy, #Tyranny, and the Ideal State

What would Plato have to say about today’s democracies?

    Updated June 24, 2024

"Having experienced the limits of both #tyranny and democracy, Plato sought to devise another and better system of government. In the Republic, which in my view is nothing more than a thought experiment, he conceived of an ideal state ruled by a small number of people selected, after close observation and rigorous testing, from a highly educated elite.

"These so-called guardians would not hold any private property. Instead, they would live together in housing provided by the state, and receive from the citizens no more than their daily sustenance. In spite, or because, of these deprivations, the guardians would be the happiest of men. Were a guardian to become ‘infatuated with some youthful conceit of happiness’ and seek to appropriate the state to himself, he would have to 'learn how wisely Hesiod spoke, when he said, ‘half is more than the whole.’

"For Plato, if a person is to give good advice on the highest affairs of state, he or she must have expertise in justice, which is a part of virtue and self-knowledge. The person who rushes into politics without having found self-knowledge falls into error and makes himself and everyone else miserable. He who is not wise cannot be happy, and it is better for such a person to be commanded by a superior in wisdom.

"The #tyrant, who is the most #unjust of people, is also the #unhappiest. The tyrant is constantly overcome by lawless desires which lead him to commit all manner of heinous act. His soul is full of disorder and regret, and is incapable of doing what it truly desires (this is similar to Socrates' notion that a bad person is, in fact, not himself). The life of the political tyrant is even more wretched than that of the private tyrant, first, because the political tyrant is in a better position to feed his desires, and, second, because he is everywhere surrounded and watched by his enemies, and becomes at first their prisoner and at last their victim. [Sounds like Trump to me!]

"The best and most just of all rulers are those who are most reluctant to govern, while the worst and most unjust are those who are most eager. Therefore, if the state is to be well ordered, it must offer another and better life than that of ruler, for only then will they rule who are truly rich, not in silver and gold, but in #virtue and #wisdom, which are the true blessings of life. And the only life that looks down upon the life of political ambition is that of true philosophy."

    Socialism Or Barbarism - #TheReds
    youtu.be/xz8oTfNFq1I?si=6z37P8

    Lyrics:

The cities burn, the rivers dry,
They sell us hope, we buy the lie.
A world in chains, a rising flood,
The gears grind on, soaked in blood.
And from the ashes of the old,
A voice of fire, brave and bold.
It's socialism or barbarism, nothing in between,
A future built on justice, or a nightmare machine.
We rise or we perish, there’s no other way —
Choose love or the sword, we decide today.
The workers march, the bosses scheme,
They steal our labor, kill the dream.
But from the fields to factory floor,
    We won’t be slaves forevermore.
Hear Rosa whisper through the storm:
"The world can break, or be reborn."
It's socialism or barbarism, nothing in between,
A future built on justice, or a nightmare machine.
We rise or we perish, there’s no other way
Choose love or the sword, we decide today.
    History bends, but it remembers
The blood spilled in the cold Decembers.
If we don’t fight, if we don’t shout
They’ll burn the whole damn planet out.
    Breakdown
No more war for oil and gold.
No more lies that we are sold.
We take the world back in our hands
No gods, no masters, just demands.
It's socialism or barbarism, the line is drawn in flame,
We march for liberation, not fortune or fame.
We rise, we resist, we fight, we stay
For the red dawn that breaks a brighter day.
    Choose now…
    Choose clear…
    Socialism…
    Or disappear!

  37. "Then when I got involved in the National Union of Students I realised that I wasn’t the only one who felt this way. That’s a really magical moment, when you discover that you’re not alone in your politics."

"If we’re contesting state power, we’re going to face a major backlash, and we need to have the institutional resilience to withstand it. […] The overall party structure has to be unitary."

  38. #ZohranMamdani on this month's cover of #InTheseTimes! Here's one of the articles from the August/September issue...

Zohran Mamdani's Win Is the Beginning of the End of the Old Democratic Party

Mamdani’s NYC primary victory shows that the old tricks of the political establishment are dying out—and something new is being born.

by Hamilton Nolan, June 25, 2025

Excerpt: "What, exactly, is the scary socialism of Zohran Mamdani that all of the #billionaires are screaming about from their high towers? #FreeBuses. #LowerRents. #PublicChildcare. Higher minimum wage. #SocialWorkers for homeless people instead of cops. Better grocery stores. Ahh! No! Not… not… all of these common sense ideas that the vast majority of NYC residents would be happy for! Anything but that!

"There is a limit to the political effectiveness of #RichMen who have servants telling regular people that their lives cannot be better. We may have reached that limit. The threat of the rich is that they will flee the city. The flaw in their leverage is that almost nobody likes them anyhow.

"Zohran’s campaign was distinguished by its determination to treat voters as adults. When accused of 'defunding the police,' Mamdani took the time to explain that he wants to create a department of mental health experts and social workers to take work off the NYPD’s plate. When accused of #antisemitism, he took the time to forthrightly distinguish that smear from valid criticism of the massacre in #Gaza. He was, often, more adult than the political press covering him, which is trained to treat dishonest attack lines as sporting challenges rather than as things to be dismissed. The youngest candidate in this race acted with the most maturity. The oldest, #AndrewCuomo, ran with the traditional playbook of treating voters like ignorant children — and failed.

"Old people with old ideas do not stay in power forever. Old lies and old tricks do not work forever. Time moves slowly — excruciatingly slowly, if you are always paying attention — but it does sweep away the old husks and bring new things, eventually. #Socialists want more people to have decent lives. Zohran Mamdani is proof that that message cannot be mischaracterized forever and ever. We will look back on this primary win as the start of something new. If America is going to have one lone opposition party to #fascism, that party does not have to suck. The establishment is too deeply rooted to move. So we will run them over."
