I could post so many photos but will finish off with this last one.
I left sharing about #LakeTyrell until the end as it was probably the highlight of our brief holiday. I will resume my regular posting from tomorrow.

At this time of year the salt has a pinkish hue caused by a micro-algae. [Edit: @abhijith_balan, your guess of fungus was therefore a good guess]
The lake had its own website - see https://laketyrrell.com

We also visited the lake to capture sunset on another day. There were quite a few people here by remote Australian standards but the lake is so vast it is not a problem.

I love this place and could spend hours here. There are so many photographs to take. This one is of sunrise this morning.

We have visited previously on a stormy day in winter. The character if the lake was completely different. It had the foreboding and other-wordly look that could be on the cover if a science fiction book.
Below is the 'keyhole' viewing platform. In winter the water laps its edges. The high evaporation rates in the shallow lake in summer means that the edge of the lake recedes at least 500 metres from here.

This morning we woke at 5:30am to catch the 6:18 sunrise at the spectacular Lake Tyrell salt lake. It is a vast lake, part of which hosts a sustainable salt mining operation. The authorities have also created a road and viewing platforms to encourage photographers. Below it is dawn on the lake.

Our first stop was the town of Wycheproof and the site of the smallest registered mountain in the world.
Yes, in a land where towns build big things to attract visitors such as the Big Merino, the Big Soider, the Giant Murray Cod (see the list - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_things_(Australia)) as well as giant murals on enormous silos, we also boast of the world's smallest registered mountain.
How it got registered as a mountain I don't know, but there it is, Mt Wycheproof just 147 metres above sea level and only 42 metres above the surrounding plain. See https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Wycheproof
We were lazy and drove up it instead of walking. The photo below shows just one of the many very straight long roads in #TheMallee, as seen from the top of Mt Wycheproof (pronounced Wichyoroof).

Today was our last day on our hastily organised, short #RoadTrip. We got up at 5:30am to catch the sunrise at 6:18am. I'll share more about the sunrise and sunset we experienced in another thread.
After a leisurely breakfast, we packed up and left our humble but comfortable motel and headed south-east.

#TheMallee is famous for its silo art trail [Edit: see http://siloarttrail.com]. Every tiny town has large concrete or metal grain siloes. In some of these towns artists have painted giant murals on them. It is a wonderful initiative to transform something that is utilitarian but not pleasing to the eye and to attract tourists to a part of the world people may not have visited before.
We have driven the silo art trail on a previous holiday in this area. It is really enjoyable. Here is a photo of the silo in Sea Lake.
