Am I just now realizing, two Cantos later, after looking up who the "Queen of everlasting lamentation" refers to (Persephone, duh, who else could it possibly be..), that the Pluto we met earlier is Hades, THE HADES (husband/kidnapper to Persephone).
I can't for the life of me internalize the roman names.

Got started with The Divine Comedy after only getting halfway through The Aeneid. I wanted to read the Aeneid to better understand The Comedy, but I guess it will work the other way around. It will help as motivation to get back to the Aeneid afterwards to catch any missed references :BlobhajBlanketSlate:

I realised that I've not really properly listened to any Divine Comedy albums after Regeneration (you know, the one where Neil Hannon tried to be something he's not, semi-disastrously). So, what better thing to do on Good Friday than catch up with several albums of back catalogue?
So far, it's quite impressive: it's still the case that every album has at least one track that makes me cry spontaneously (*two* on Bang Goes the Knighthood) *and* also at least one incisively witty track [although few as *angry* as The Complete Banker, also from the above album].
(I do cry easily from some triggers, but Hannon seems particularly good at this.) -

The Bern album is a double CD thing that he released independently (in Canada?) shortly after his major label debut album. Some of his great early songs, including a few songs that went on to be re-recorded better with #AniDifranco on his next album Fifty Eggs.
The Divine Comedy album is definitely short, but among my favorites of Neil Hannon’s. No fat on it.

Hallo und guten Tag, ich bin auf dieser Instanz #NeuHier. Ich bin zwar nicht von meinem “Heimatserver” berlin.social weggezogen (dort drüben bin ich als @FrauBluecher unterwegs), habe aber vor, hier einen Schrebergarten für Gelaber über Musik und Literatur einzurichten, welches dann doch mehr als 500 Zeichen pro Post benötigt. Dafür wird mein mangels Interaktion brach liegender Wordpress-Blog schlafen gelegt.
Den ständigen Empörungsmodus von Twitter möchte ich hier definitiv nicht weiter pflegen, deshalb tröte ich seit meinem Umzug zu Mastodon bewusst unpolitisch − und sehr viel entspannter. Gute Musik, horrible und fantastische Literatur und Handygeknipse sind bislang meine Themen, und meine Nerven danken es mir. Auch aus diesem Grund werden Leerdenker & Co. ohne weitere Diskussion geblockt, sobald sie sich zu erkennen geben, ich habe keinen Bedarf, Lebenszeit mit sinnlosen Diskussionen zu verschwenden.

In exchange, my Wordpress blog, which is lying dormant for lack of interaction, will be put to sleep.
I definitely don't want to continue the constant outrage mode of Twitter here, so since moving to Mastodon, I've been deliberately tooting non-politically - and much more relaxed. Good music, horror and scifi literature and mobile phone photography have been my main topics so far, and my nerves thank me for it. Also for this reason, "empty thinkers" aka covidiots, right-winger & co. are blocked without further discussion as soon as they make themselves known; I have no need to waste life time with pointless discussions.
