Seen at Paris Nord 🇫🇷 station, just before embarking on a #Eurostar service: an #SNCF #TGV-M trainset, the future French high-speed train, built by #Alstom under the brand name #Avelia-Horizon. It’s most likely here on a test run. The black livery on the nose is, err, interesting (🙈) from an aesthetics point of view. And the grey tape, surrounding the hatch on the side of the nose: 🤔
Otherwise: certainly a nice train. Looking forward to a ride at some point in the future.

With #SNCF 🇫🇷 #TGV #inoui from #Strasbourg to #Paris. At 320 kph we pass along the #Champagne vineyards where the grape harvest is in full swing.
Before reaching Paris Est station we get a glimpse of the new (or, rather, future) #Alstom #TGV-M #Avelia-Horizon trainsets, close relatives of the #Acela #NextGen #Amtrak #Avelia-Liberty high speed trains.

J'aime beaucoup cette gare et c'est pour ça que j'ai proposé à @elsa et à @sam d'y faire un tour : les TGV passent à 220 km/h tout en étant à une distance sûre. Même quand le conducteur ne siffle pas, ça décoiffe !

Le mécanicien de ce TGV Dasye a été facétieux : en voyant @elsa, @sam et moi avec nos appareils photo, il a joué du sifflet pour nous adresser un petit coucou à 220 km/h, à Vaires – Torcy. Même quand on s'y attend, ça me fait toujours sursauter !

En dehors des 5 allers-retours quotidiens pour Paris, Grenoble est laissée à l’écart des grandes lignes, obligeant à aller à Lyon Part Dieu, Valence TGV pour prendre des trains Intercités ou TGV, ou à Chambéry ou Chambéry pour se rendre en Italie.

That's maybe an overstatement, but definitely there are deep problems – for a start, the double curse of a super-centralised network around Paris and of high speed #TGV being reluctant to stop in smaller stations and even to allow connecting trains.

It is 10pm. #Germany, #Switzerland and #Benelux are still illuminated, but #France is mostly dark, with just a little bit of firework pyrotechny around #Paris.

Curfew ? No, #trains across #Europe.

On board an #SNCF 🇫🇷 #TGV high-speed train a few days ago. Passing alongside some famous #Burgundy 🍷 vineyards south of #Dijon as we travel southwards on former #PLM, Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée, railroad tracks.

L’escargot est toujours en vie.

Puisque Paris Gare de Lyon est proche, on peut aussi observer les TGV reliant Paris à la Suisse depuis les cabines du Câble 1.

J'étais avec @sncf, @sam et @elsa dans la même cabine. C'est toujours impressionnant de voir les trains passer à l'altitude où on est !

The reason train connections in France are 1h is not due to a lack of organisation. It's due to the French wanting to have steak frites in between two trains.

It's also an occasion to admire the results of French laws now requiring car parks of a certain size to be covered with solar panels.

By checking SBB this morning, we realised our #SNCF #TGV routing was far from optimal. Weighing cost vs convenience, we cancelled the TGV tickets from #Narbonne to #Valence this morning. Having the #liO leg from Collioure to Narbonne still available, we booked the #RENFE #AVE only from Narbonne...

D'abord quand on n'a pas/plus de #voiture, mais aussi pour les foyers qui en gardent une :
- accès flexible à une 2e voiture ponctuellement,
- avoir un modèle différent (minibus 9 places ? utilitaire ? mini-citadine, électrique ?) ponctuellement,
- avoir une voiture ailleurs que chez soi (#train + voiture, il y a des stations près de beaucoup de grandes #gares en #France et avec #Citiz une réciprocité nationale entre services locaux)
