Telegram sure likes to update a lot. But they do it right. Requires you to hit the update button (vs automatic), the update is fast (<5s usually), the program reopens w/o an involved re-login process, and the updates seem tested (e.g., don't break everything). #software #techgripe

And don’t use now because they’re not useful to me right now.
Why don’t you compile a version of Excel, and OneDrive for Linux? That would be far more useful to me than a crappy mobile app.

The #Microsoft #Edge people really don't want you to turn off the "news" they display you when you open it or a new tab. I put up with it for a while but they put too much low-quality click bait and I had enough.

(Short version: Despite having been told not to apply updates until my course had ended, Windows applied a firmware update anyway. It rebooted without my permission and then got stuck. I couldn't force the computer down and had to use my computer as a battery for my iPad in order to drain the laptop's battery. It then refused to start up again until it had enough battery charge to apply the firmware update that it still didn't have permission from me to install.)

CW: School / MS Word tech gripe
Because of WGU pedantry, I’ve taken to cross linking (inside the same document) between answers when it’s helpful to me not to have to rewrite the same shit in full a billionth time.
So far, no revisions on any task I’ve used this strategy with. I’m still answering the question, I’m just not repeating all the same text again.
It turns out MS Word won’t let you start a bookmark’s name with a number. You can imagine how annoying that might be.
⚠️ This is a gripe, not a tech support request. I’ll only entertain suggestions for other software if you first successfully persuade WGU to require that software instead of Microsoft Office products. ⚠️
