do the people calling for a US diesel export ban realize that that won't help at all?
1- there may be contracts in place for the exported diesel and that would be breaching those contracts - a no-no under CUSMA (ignoring the fact the US is ignoring CUSMA in the first place). Under CUSMA, anyone who's contracts are interfered with by gov't action can sue the gov't that introduced the changes - this goes both ways and not just Canada being "Nasty"
2- the raw crude for US refineries is heavy crude that mostly comes from Canada? if US exports are stopped/paused/delayed, then an export tariff on crude could go into effect and likely drive prices up as supply gets cut off while demand remains the same.
3- if it were really true that the US doesn't need anything from anyone else, the US wouldn't be in this mess presently.
