Wow, great article. We recently just started hosting everything. Our email server was the biggest problem because our IP, a VPN address is/was on countless corprite ran "spam" lists.

We are now running about 12 differnt services, the lastest being a version control system. The more AI infestation like the now microshit owned github, the more systems we will "self host".

I've often thought about this very problem for music in the #Fediverse.

Like ghost is doing for writing, it would be incredible to have a video and audio Fediverse server app.

I'm trying to get a ghost server to get people off from substack but it would be fantastic to get people off from Bandcamp too.

An old tried and tested decentralized system called XMPP is another great solution.

I keep saying, stop selling yourself to the corporations, #TakeTheInternetBack self host on any desktop computer. The corporations make it sound so difficult because they want to control it.

If you have an old computer not being used and a hardwired internet, DON'T SELL YOURSELF TO THE CORPORATIONS. I'm so old, i even ran a BBS in the 90's when we the people controlled it.
