Work safety is always an important topic in a workshop, but especially in an open workshop with many non-professionals. We are happy about a motivated member improving things practically, from better safety goggles, new table saw push blocks, info material and safety course.

#tablesaw manufacturers need to expand their lineup. lap saws, counter saws, wall saws, ceiling saws, door saws, microwave saws.

I managed to break my #tablesaw a while back, and although it was probably something I could fix, I didn't feel like it was safe anymore. So, on a little bit of an impulse purchase, I bought myself a new #EvolutionPowerTools R255TBL+ (with a nice discount code from #CasualDIY on #YouTube). It's a bit of a step up from my old saw, which I'd retrofitted with quite a few features that come as standard on the new one, and has a lot of extras that the old one didn't.

New floor for the small #tractor #trailer. Found some old boards stacked in one of the barns, then made made a 3m long jig for sending them through the table saw from two pieces of door architrave and some scraps.
Cutouts where the frame had reinforcements welded in and voila, new floor. I'll add braces when I've redone the frame.
Also a wheelbarrow of scraps for the following hot shower (well, tub of warm water to pour over the head).

Been meaning to post my latest tool and one of the last few I really needed. Picked up Laguna’s F2 during Father’s Day. I can only hack certain cuts so many ways before you really itch horribly for a table saw. Wanted sawstops pcs but they raised costs again and it’s really just out of reach.
So far it’s been a workhorse. Built some jigs and a sled. Working on a memorial flag box now.

"A few days after watching Jonathan Katz-Moses' introduction of his absolutely game-changing cross-cut sled fence jig, I woke up from anxious dreams and had the idea for this partially disposable 3D-printed system." (Also, I wanted to use the word "butt" as a verb as many times as possible.) #Woodworking #3Dprint #crosscut #tablesaw #tischkreissäge #schiebeschlitten

@bryan nice.
Doesn't MDF make it rather heavy? The first one I made was 18mm MDF salvaged from some wardrobe doors, but I got fed up of lifting it. The one I have now is made out of very cheap ply, so I'll have to make a new one at some point as that ply doesn't take to repeated stressing of the screws (and by stressing it's just what you cause by picking it up and rotating it to get it on the saw!)

Three link belts ready to go. Time to go tame that table saw. Also we chose countertop and folks are coming to measure the island in 7 days. So pressure is on...
-
I hate changing belts on power tools in general, but table saw with its 3 belts deserves special place in hell

Automated table saw fence...
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jphadaway/rip-it-20-the-automated-table-saw-fence
Now all I need is for someone to invent sheets of plywood that will climb on the table saw by themselves and we as woodworkers should be all set!
-
So my weekend in workshop started normally yesterday. all I had to do was quickly build two columns for extended portion of the island to support countertop overhang. I picked up quarter sheet of maple plywood I had leftover from previous project. all I needed was 8 3-1/2" wide strips with 45 degree miter on edges. easy peasy, right?
Wrong!! dead wrong!.
My first cut, saw started smoking. I mean literally blue smoke coming out from blade cavity. my first thought was to cuss myself for being lazy and not cleaning insides of the saw cabinet. so stop everything, open the cabinet, vacuum out the sawdust .. and not gonna lie, there was a lot. this old saw I have isn't exactly known for it's stellar dust collection. alrighty... so take off the 80 tooth plywood blade, put on 20 tooth rip blade just for test. I know edge will not be glue ready, but I just want to know if it's blade.. even after all this, as soon as I start miter cut, saw starts smoking again. at this stage, I didn't think setting fire to your house for the sake of woodworking is a good idea and decided to change how I am going to build columns. they are going to be painted anyways... so break out biscuit jointer, do straight rip cuts to get 4 sides of the columns and I finally managed to get column finished before 8 pm. Now columns just need some trim work and then I will move on to building doors & drawers.
Went out today and tore down the saw to figure out what is going on, turns out that when saw motor is hanging down at 45 degrees, belts slip. so now I need 3 new belts and I am going to have to take couple of days to tear down, clean and realign the saw. oh well... atleast it was simple fix, time consuming... but simple..I guess I better order length of link belt.
-
This was the sad state this #tablesaw was in when I got it, have fixed it up and removed all the rust, upgraded the insert to a zero clearance one, etc... My neighbor bought a fancy new saw and was going to toss it out on the curb. I needed a table saw. Still working on it.

Fixed the vintage #Craftsman #tablesaw #pulley issue. Had to put a crowbar up in between the metal wall and pulley (and WD40 the shaft) to persuade it to go back where it belongs. Then I tightened the set hex nut. Don't lose the little rectangular piece which keeps the pulley from spinning.

Oooh, figured out what a #featherboard is for! (yes, you can tell I ended up with one with no idea what they were for) #tablesaw #carpentry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bl-hQDwhxpo

New riving knife on my vintage Clark table saw, and all zero clearance inserts have been notched. 1st cuts have been made and it works great! (post modification to fit the vintage saw).
I've had this saw for around 4 years. I didn't get a riving knife with it. It feels much safer now for making longer cuts.
