  1. Calm before the conference. If you're at #FrOSCon check out the Flatcar booth right at the Mensa, next to #KairOS and near #Fedora #CoreOS.

    I have a #Kubernetes #Sysext talk on #Flatcar #container #linux at 6 tomorrow, and @tormath1 will follow up with a hands-on tutorial on Sunday at 4.

  2. Attending to #FrOSCon this year is a good opportunity to: learn about Flatcar and discuss your use-cases with some Flatcar's maintainers (at the Flatcar booth and/or during the social event). See you there! #systemd #sysext #linux #flatcar #OpenSource #DevOps

  3. On Sunday 17th 4:00pm, @tormath1 will run a workshop to learn how to run, build and update systemd-sysext images on image based systems. programm.froscon.org/2025/even

  4. On Saturday 16th 6:15pm, @thilo will demo Kubernetes deployment using Flatcar and systemd-sysext and how to handle the updates. programm.froscon.org/2025/even

  6. I restored Discover to my Bazzite install using a Systemd-Sysext. Essentially a sub disk image that is loaded during boot of the immutable system, that way you dont have to layer all the plasma components this would usually require!

Neat! No shade to the devs

If people want instructions I guess I can write something up over the weekend

  7. I'm getting the itch of building my next linux install using and . 😎

Basic point, memory of keeps getting further. 😅 Can build out subvolumes that are mounted read only. No modification of the /usr or even /etc necessary.

  8. While practising my #kubernetes #systemd #sysext talk for #CloudNative Rejekts I constantly went over time, so I tried a radical concept: just demos, no slides.

Please find the result here: m.youtube.com/watch?v=Hb37wNKc and let me know what you think!

  9. Next up at #FrOSCon : @tormath1 Mathieu and Julian @apricote talk about news and happenings in and around #flatcar #container #linux - new vendors support, ClusterAPI updates, and the latest on #systemd #sysext .
The presentation will commence in about 5 minutes; abstract is here programm.froscon.org/2024/even

The live stream for the talk is here: streaming.media.ccc.de/froscon

  10. Blogged about #imagebased #linux os composability with #systemd #sysext and our upcoming #torcx deprecation in #Flatcar #Container Linux: flatcar.org/blog/2023/12/exten

If you haven't heard about torcx, don't worry about it. It's a rather specific tool for a very limited use case. Sysexts on the other hand make customising immutable, image-based Linux distros like Flatcar a lot more flexible!

  15. Here's a new addition to the @flatcar documentation if you want to setup a cluster using Systemd images: flatcar.org/docs/latest/contai
With this approach, it's easier to control the update of Kubernetes software by leveraging the sysupdate feature and to coordinate the nodes update.
