So it has been a few weeks since I got the Surface Go 2 and put linux onto it; I have been on-and-off setting the tablet up to my liking and now it's in a pretty good place. The last 2 jobs is to install the correct light sensor drivers (though I like to manually set the brightness), and install Signal
So I've nuked the Windows install and instead running Fedora 43 under the KDE Plasma Mobile environment as desktop is the most perfect to use on such a device and that has worked exactly as intended! This is true in general: it's been so much more reliable than the ThinkPad 13 with no freezes upon sleep and things like sound and the like just worked outa-the-box! Very pleased over the 1.5 weeks I've actually been using it.
In terms of the theming: I chose the iOS icons (the files one I'm still trying to find) as I really do prefer Apple's icons, and the background is a subtle trans background by naimapanda (I think) (https://wallpapercave.com/w/wp4842190).

So I bought a. Surface Go 2 to replace the ThinkPad 13 as my internet surfing and scriptwriting device. The ThinkPad 13 Gen 2 I bought in 2023 just kept giving me grief under Linux and for the task at hand I missed the compactness and how I could just quickly “pickup” and quickly search something on the iPad 2 that was given to me before I replaced it. Needless the say the ThinkPad didn’t allow me to do the same with the constant freezes when it tried to go to sleep.
Why SGO2? Well according to the Surface Linux GitHub page the tablet has amazing Linux support out-of-the-box without any messing around! :akko_excited:
With the context on WHY I bought to SGO2 outta the way: I’ve setup a rather janky station while I’m watching TV and installing Fedora Mobile onto the tablet - continuing the trend of NEVER going back to windows and have EVERYTHING run Linux! My trails of the distro in a VM was very promising! :apartyblobcat:

As a die-hard Unix and Linux user for some forty years, that's something.

I managed to forget my #SurfaceGo2's password by not using it in a while. Now I wonder: Is there an Arch-based distro with SecureBoot support, or another secure-boot distro that has something comfortable like arch-chroot? #ask

Quick update on #SurfaceGo2 battery life with #kdeneon User Edition (stock 5.13.* kernel):
It had 71% battery today at 10:15,

68% at 12:38
- light webbrowsing -
60% at 13:15
- standby -
56% at 19:15.No idea how Windows 10/11 compare, but this is fine in my book!
