@PeterBlok China isn't the hope you're looking for. China has built some really huge dams producing a lot of hydro power and a whole lot of solar, they really are world leading in those areas. However, that's just one part of the equation. The communists have been increasing their overall energy use just as fast as they've been building out new alternative energy production.

There is no getting around the fact that our species is in deep, deep overshoot and that a radical reduction in population combined with a radical reduction in consumption and energy use per person is the only path that gives us a slim chance of avoiding biosphere collapse (which may already be inevitable even if we cut all emissions to zero today).
