The video ... somewhat inadequately contextualised below ... makes the valid point that in a down market, bad assets drag down good ones as leverage, margin requirements, and loan collateral prompt heavily-borrowing ("leveraged") investors to sell anything to meet those obligations.
As I recall John Kenneth Galbraith made this observation in The Great Crash: 1929, his history of the Wall Street crash of that year which precipitated the Great Depression. Published in 1955, and reprinted many times, it still very much bears reading if you want to understand how financial markets misbehave.
I of course cannot find the quote I have in mind presently, though I submit for my reader's pleasure a compilation of others from the same author:

it seems like you really have to be in the cult of musk to go for it...
why does it feel like everything in the economy and in politics and in tech is driven by cult-like behavior? real "emperor has no clothes on" hours. this is one reason why i prefer living with nature: nature is honest. nature isn't trying to sell you anything or pitch you on anything.

Here's the part that makes him either a good actor or a complete asshole. The "oh shit what if he's serious?" line is in the middle:
"There's 11,500 employees. It doesn't make sense," he said on the TBPN podcast. "I could run that business from my house. It's eBay, it looks the same as it did in 1995. It doesn't need 11,500 employees."
"I could run that business from my house" is a pure tell for a certain type of slop-brained AI-cultist CEO who wants to have an employee count of zero and "AI agents" who run things and make money for him (and it's always a "him") while he nudges values back and forth from his mansion by the beach.
So he's either playing the part perfectly, _or_ a disaster in motion.

It's not a matter of buying Gamestop for $2600M, it's about waiting until they crash into the ground to buy them for $260M.
Gamestop is not going to die, but is going to shrink more and more until they become irrelevant. That means closing stores, selling other shit, and else.

Stocks tried _really hard_ to have a good day today. Everything rallied. At one point the DJIA was up a whole 1%, which is a good swing up. They tried.
Market's still open but... it has not worked out.

Are ‘business leaders’ really that gullible? All Trump did was pause his deadline until after trading on Friday. Or does reality even matter when the only metric of success in modern business is ‘line go up’?

You’re looking at it wrong; think of the OPPORTUNITY for corporate buyers to come in and snap up supply at bargain prices! Then, once they have achieved a majority stake they can crank up the rents as easy as turning on a faucet! Gotta get in now on the ground floor!
