  1. My (old-school, non-Fediverse) #blog used Disqus for reader comments on posts.

Disqus was 👍 10 years ago, but today it litters posts with ads, heavily tracks users and nearly forces them to log in, so I switched to #Staticman by @eduardoboucas

Needed a bit of hacking, but old comments were migrated (including a bunch that were not showing up); they show up instantly, with no ads, no tracking and no sign-in; (tiny and local) JavaScript only required to write new ones! ❤️

  5. @tomasekeli Nice, I did the same thing and moved my blog from #WordPress to #Jekyll + #GitHub Pages a few years back and blogged about it too 🙂. I agree with all of your reasons for the move. I also have a little section about getting comments working as well with #Staticman. For analytics I use #GoogleAnalytics (although you said you don’t want to have tracking in your site).

  10. Asking folks doing web-dev: do you know of an easy, FOSS way to implement a simple rudimentary commenting system in a gatsbyjs blog ? I have tried staticman (staticman.net/) which has a perfect workflow for my needs, but found it very hard to configure given my hobbyist skill level.

I wanted to avoid rolling my own, but perhaps that is the best way to go? Thoughts?

  13. I'm considering ways to add comments to my #staticsite. If you have any recs, please let me know! I'm currently looking into #talkyard (talkyard.io), #staticman (staticman.net), & #cactuscomments (cactus.chat). Disqus is off the table due to tracking & ads. I use #jekyll to generate my Neocities site if that matters.
