  1. In the UK, we suspended the death penalty in 1965 and permanently abolished it in 1969. One of the reasons for this was the execution of Derek Bentley in 1953. He was convicted of murdering a police officer: even though his accomplice, Christopher Craig, actually pulled the trigger and Bentley was already under arrest at the time that PC Sidney Miles was shot!

    I recommend all advocates of capital punishment to read the book that I am currently reading: I can think of no better explanation of why you are wrong!

Any list that starts with, “China, Iran, North Korea and Saudi Arabia…” is not a list that you want to be on! It’s not one of the “fun” lists. They start: Sweden, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands…
