This week we were in the Palestinian village of Nabi Salih in the occupied West Bank for a solidarity visit after the village was attacked by settlers from a settlement overlooking the village. Read through for what happened:
A few days ago, three settlers tried to steal Palestinians' sheep but were stopped by men from the village – so the settlers called the army, claiming the men had beaten them.
There’s no evidence that that ever happened, but the army took some men for an interrogation.
They were released after eight hours without any interrogation but the settlers were able to steal 50 sheep.
Locals left the village for fear of more attacks, and a few days later, when no one was there, more settlers arrived and stole clothes, money, and one of the children’s schoolbags.
They also emptied an entire pantry, scattering flour, grains, and food across the floor and broke equipment.
The community watched it happen from an observation point across the road. We went to hear from the community itself and to stand in solidarity with it.
This reality, which is supported by the government and the army, is unbearable, and it’ll continue until we end the occupation.
Every single one of us in our society must join the fight because this is completely horrific for Palestinians in the West Bank and it will never make any of us safer.
