  1. Headline: Copilot Edited an Ad Into My PR

Me: I saw something like this once with SQL Server Management Studio. I was equally appalled.

  2. Why does #MSSQLServer allow table indexes that have no name? How are they created? What is their use?

  3. I'm shocked!

    SHOCKED, I say!

A Microsoft update changed my existing settings. I prefer the 'Classic Connection Dialog' because...it's what I've used for eleventy billion years. But, no! MS has to fuck up the end user experience for everyone.

    Sigh.

  4. Every time I update a Microsoft tool I depend on (for work), I'm filled with dread wondering what gratuitous horse crap they're going to foist on me.

    More Copilot?
    Banner Ads for MS services?
    Changes to keyboard shortcuts?
New UI where everything is moved around and difficult to find?

    It never ends...

  5. I wonder in which version of SQL Server Management Studio #SSMS or #SQL it will be before #Microsoft finally fix the most irritating bug...

"Description: Failed to compiled scripts contained in the package."

    Failed to compileD??? Grr!

  6. @awilbert
When I first heard about AI/Copilot inclusion with SSMS, I voiced my displeasure on LinkedIn. It was not well received.

But seeing that ad in SSMS made me feel vindicated with regards to my criticism of MS. They have become so terrible. 🙁

  7. Microsoft tried to stuff an ad bar into #SSMS, then pushed an update saying you can simply disable it if you don't like it... by editing the registry.

I saw some comments in another posting about this where people were saying "SSMS is free, and Microsoft needs to make money somehow." *facepalm*

  13. Do you write a lot of paper checks? (I don't--typically it's just one per month.) If so, do you screw up the year when writing in the date for the first few weeks/months of the new year?

This is my TSQL version of that. I'm off to a good start. 🙄

  18. One of the most #useless search functions in any software application ever written and published ever, surely must be, imho, the one in the Object Explorer of #microsoft #ssms #sqlservermanagementstudio . Yes, it displays results if found... and then won't let you do anything with that knowledge.

Looking for a view or stored procedure? Found here! But no link, no click to access, no open, no nothing. You get a path.

    And thanks, Microsoft. Do better.

  19. Why does #Microsoft #SQLServerManagementStudio pretend to take a long time "creating a script" when requesting a view definition? The definition is stored in the information_schema. Using #sqlcmd we can request it, and it pops up instantly. What does #SSMS think its doing?

  20. When it comes to the BI & data visualization change what I'm liking the most is the technical challenge to extract insights. Working with #SQL, #Python, #Pandas, #Excel, #SSMS, #SSIS, #SSAS, doing #ETL... It aint easy but it is rewarding. Also learning a lot using #Tableau, #Qlikview and #Talend.

Hardest and least appealing to work with so far has been #SSRS, but I like the results when I manage to get what I want :)
