Vandenberg SFB Launch Alert
"The U.S. Space Force has approved the launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying the USSF-153 mission, Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, between 8:37 a.m. – 11:37 a.m. PT from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4).
A minimal possibility exists that residents of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties may hear a sonic boom during the launch. Depending on weather and location, this event may sound like an abrupt crack of thunder according to prediction models."

💁🏻♀️ TIL: 🏰⚙️ #Aerospace engineer Tom Stanton built a backyard #trebuchet powerful enough to launch a projectile past the speed of #sound.
He redesigned the ancient siege weapon with a 3:1 pulley system and a longer sling that revolved multiple times to gain #momentum. After extensive trial and error, his release cracked the whip of a #sonicboom at 1,249 km/h (776 mph), just clearing the 1,234 km/h (767 mph) barrier.

Seeking Quieter Supersonic Flight
Supersonic flight over the U.S. has been banned by all non-military aircraft for more than fifty years. The ban gained momentum in the 1960s after test programs over St. Louis and Oklahoma provoked public outcry. But NASA’s X-59 aircraft is working to lift the ban by softening the sonic booms that encouraged the ban in the first place. Although it hasn’t been tested at supersonic speeds yet, pilots are putting the sharp and skinny X-59 through its paces, slowly widening the flight envelope.

In the video above, NASA shares footage of some of the recent test flights, including various maneuvers like phugoids, banking rolls, flutter, and landing gear tests. Pay close attention to the pilot’s view and the radio chatter, and you’ll hear that they’re hovering around Mach 0.98 in some cases–just underneath the point of generating a shock wave around the aircraft. It will be neat to see what happens when they finally do go supersonic. Will it be as quiet as promised? (Video credit: NASA; image credit: NASA/L. Losey; see also NASA; via Gizmodo)

How the XB-1 #aircraft went supersonic without a #sonicboom
In this case, the #BoomSupersonic #XB1 took advantage of a #physics phenomenon called the Mach cutoff. Because sound moves more slowly at higher altitudes, an aircraft breaching the sound barrier at those heights will produce a boom that cannot reach the ground – if the boom moves downward, the increasing speed of sound will deflect it, pushing its shock waves upward instead. https://www.newscientist.com/article/2467745-how-the-xb-1-aircraft-went-supersonic-without-a-sonic-boom/ -

I’ve been following “Boom Supersonic” and “Tokamak Energy” on the internet for years now, and it’s great to see the breakthrough from Boom today. Hopefully Overture will be a lot nearer, and supersonic passenger flights will soon be flying again!https://news.sky.com/story/new-concorde-prototype-jet-breaks-sound-barrier-for-first-time-13298478

#JetFighters chase small plane in #Washington area before it crashes in #Virginia
The #UnitedStates scrambled F-16 fighter jets in a #Supersonic chase of a light aircraft with an unresponsive pilot that violated airspace in the #WashingtonDC area and later crashed into the mountains of Virginia, officials said.
Four people were on board the Cessna, a source familiar with the matter said. A Cessna Citation can carry seven to 12 passengers.
