today's achievement: 4 solo games of Dorfromantik board game.
I haven't gone this far in the campaign yet, exciting! (Mostly because it's the third or fourth time that I restart said campaign with different players - apparently I hadn't started a proper campaign on my own yet!)
Playing alone makes it feel quicker, and playing a few games in a row makes it trivial to re setup and start again (it's quite hard to stop when you just unlocked one more tile/rule :) )
My edition is in German though so that requires a bit more brain when a new rule spawns (and I realized after the second game today that I had misread a core rule - making my life significantly more difficult) (and the game far more luck dependent) -
Hello, June! Here’s my May #bgstats update and highlights:
- Picked up #TooManyBones from a FLGS sale, having a grand time rolling dice and defeating baddies!
- Introduced to Mexica, Mosaic, and Rise & Fall by my group (#Mexica’s my fave among those)
- Finally defeated solo challenge 1 of #HadriansWall
- Trampled in 4 of 5 plays in #Wingspan by my partner (who claimed our all time high score of 150 this month!)
- Entered Chapter 2 of #ArkhamHorrorLCG… -
I like playing short (under an hour) solo boardgames in the evenings. I've tried quite a few different games, but I'm getting hooked on flip and write games. It's almost no setup, very small footprint (couch or bed friendly), but still a lot of variability or complexity.
My top pick is Welcome to the moon and recently Flip town, loving both. Any other games for this genre?

I tried Unstoppable and really enjoyed it! It's a deckbuilder with customizable cards for 1-2 players. Chaining actions to disable your enemies and extend your turns is a lot of fun!

I look forward to playing again relatively soon. Where this ranks in the series isn’t really relevant to me right now, I think it’s very cool how they continue to flex the core system for different types of gameplay. That said, I really don’t think Godai should be your first entry into the series, both because of its complexity and because it just doesn’t quite feel like the other Hexplore It games.
Great experience though, looking forward to another play with less looking things up and a better flow 🙂

A new kind of print-and-play? 👀
In my 71st issue, I’m talking about a fresh spin on PnP that feels genuinely exciting, especially now that I’ve got one of them in hand!

I’ve actually managed to play a few board games lately! Yesterday I took a solo run at #Fallout: The Board Game with the New California and Atomic Bonds expansions. Did an evil run of The Pitt as a Ghoul sided with the Slavers. Tried a couple of house rules for solo and had a great time. Managed a win with only a few turns left before I would have lost…and with 1 HP left! With its expansions it’s still one of my favourite adventure board games out there. Would love more expansions or a new edition one day.

From last night…got Dirt & Dust to the table to give it a try! Coming into the final two turns of the rally stage; close one with the bot up by 2 points. It’s really impressive how thematic this game is for what’s really a euro. #boardgames #soloboardgames

Teleported straight to the Medieval era through TownSpire!
Rebuilding a forgotten town from the ground up, it's a game of conditional placements, threat management, and drawing each structure by hand. All packed into a quick, immersive experience!

Played #HEXploreIt Valley of the Dead King tonight. Main goal was attempting to complete as many Shrine of Seasons quests as I could. Took a long time to find the tile with Shrine of Seasons and struggled to keep myself fed for much of the game. Didn’t last too long before the Dead King was coming for me and I was simply under-levelled for the final encounter. Had a good time trying to explore efficiently though and look forward to giving it another try. #boardgames #soloboardgames

Another game of Spirit Island, before Jagged Earth arrives. I like this game. Although I am awful at it, I still have fun.

Absolutely ridiculous amount of sacrifice made to the altar of Ixchel in this game of Hoplomachus. #SoloBoardgames #SoloGaming #Boardgames

More #LeviathanWilds on the table today; the mechanics of the game are finally clicking, and I’m realizing how much mobility and freedom you have in moving around these creatures. This one is slowly climbing my personal favourite games list. #boardgames #soloboardgames

Another game in my solo campaign of Dorf Romantik Sakura #boardgames #soloBoardgames #foreverAlone

Thought I was going to lose my first #IsofarianGuard boss fight, but managed to take the three enemies out with a mere 2 health left. Epic!

A lot of the time I think my minis suffer a bit from an overabundance of ... enthusiasm? vision? Basically the idea that if I just keep chugging away they will end up ready for Golden Demon.
This isn't a bad thing! Both because I think that's how you learn and because for me much of the joy is in the process.
However, maybe I'd have some joy about more painted minis to use in games? So for the minis for Rebecca Walks Home at Night, I'm going to try to limit myself on complexity and see how it feels.
Here are a few base coats I had time for.

Blowing off steam on this awful evening by murdering the sh*t out of a Great Old One, Hastur, using nothing but nerd dice thrown by a pyromaniac child with no name who can't stop laughing maniacally.

Nearing the end of my Sleeping Gods: Distant Skies campaign. Going to miss it, but gosh am I also ready to move on after nearing 40 hours in this world.

Final board of Terraforming Mars solo game with the Automa expansion - I would have expected to get beaten faaaar worse by the automaton :)
