    Heute undenkbar.

  3. “We’re Chicago! Give us a sliver of sidewalk next to a major thoroughfare and we’ll make it a bistro. Give us a postage stamp-sized balcony overlooking an alley and we’ll make it a four-season sanctuary. Give us a cement stoop with a third step that’s crumbling a little and we’ll make it a cathedral. Give us February and we’ll host a half-marathon. From Soldier Field!
“Now we need a dome? Who are we?“

  4. The crowd vibe at #SoldierField is much less "bucket hat and Adidas tracksuit" tonight. More black tee shirts and hair dye. Although the human porter had a bit more trouble getting me through gate security.

  5. According to a correspondent at Soldier Field, at the moment, the greatest threat is not from the weather, occasionally gusting to 50 mph, but from Beyonce fans, angry about delaying the concert.

Correspondent - "The storm is still about an hour away!"

Ryan - "If we delayed Beyonce for no reason, that would not be good."

He has changed his mind about displaying his stream with his face on the giant screens around Soldier Field.

  6. He just suggested they put this stream up on the screens outside, so people in their cars at Soldier Field waiting for the Beyonce concert can know when to run (like hell - it's a tornado)!

The concert is delayed a bit.

Don't sit in your cars in the parking lot, people.

  7. While living in #Chicago, in the South Loop, with a view of #SoldierField, the only #ChicagoBears game I ever saw live was at #FordField in #Detroit.

The gas, hotel, and 3 hour roadtrip to #Michigan was cheaper than home game tickets.

  8. Huh, the new Bears proposal for a stadium is... wildly different than I expected :otter_peek: I really like what the renders did with the old Soldier Field columns (and frankly, the UFO they landed inside of it was always a massively ugly waste of money). I feel mostly ambivalent on the proposal I think, provided taxpayers aren't on the hook for it.

If this proposal actually happens, civic leaders from the south side really should lobby hard for the CTA to revisit the Gold Line proposal to take part of the existing Metra electric right-of-way and turn it into a rapid transit corridor. If the city really wants to revitalize the lakefront and drive tourism, they should focus on increasing access between the lakefront parks (the stupid bean/Millennium Park, Grant Park, etc), the Museum Campus (the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Planetarium, Soldier Field), McCormick Place, and Jackson Park (the Museum of Science and Industry and the new Barack Obama Presidential Library). Plus the Gold Line could be used to bring a valuable link for south lake shore communities between the Loop all the way down to South Chicago. :vg_puro_shrug: Seems like a win/win to me.

Side note: Also, boost the Green Line back to Jackson Park like it used to be :neofox_what: It'd make for a great transfer point for people between the Gold Line and the Green Line.
