This weekend is the #SOCALsota group campout, at Cerro Noroeste in southern Kern County.
I was only able to take part on Saturday (altitude is a bit of a problem for me) but what an incredibly awesome day. SO many mastodoners, so many people into the exact tiny niche of #HamRadio that I like. Just a lot of very cool people no matter how you look at it. You know who you are.
I activated two peaks, and chased about a dozen more. And NT6E activating 7 peaks in a day...legendary. IFKYK.

For those tracking SOTA roads in SoCal...we took 7N23 from Lake Hughes, which was open and recently graded. 7N23A the last couple of miles was in great shape too; high clearance or 4wd weren't absolutely necessary.
7N23 is currently in great shape all the way from Lake Hughes to Bald Mountain, recently graded, but water bars west of 7N23A mean high clearance vehicles are recommended. My Crosstrek JUST scraped a couple.
I'm going to start adding road condition reports on Mastodon

Awesome day...took W6CSM on his first SOTA expedition, Burnt Peak between LA and Antelope Valley. 35 degrees, VERY windy, we even got snowed on. While on the summit we ran into KK6WT and KK6MT as well. Only a couple of summit-to-summit QSOs, not surprising given the unexpected cold weather. It was a great day.

Today's Summits On The Air activation was Timber Mountain W6/CT-052. I logged 20 contacts :) This summit is one of four you can get to from the Icehouse Canyon trailhead and the Cucamonga Wilderness. Weather was Perfect. There was a bit of snow about, but very little on trail. #SoCalSOTA #Sota #HamRadio

My 7th year anniversary doing the amateur radio activity called Summits On The Air. Celebrated by activating my 123rd summit today. Then it was San Gabriel Peak with a giant Buddipole and tripod and I only managed a few contacts with a borrowed radio. Today had a much lighter set of gear. Since that day 7 years ago I've made 1,906 contacts of which 1,563 were done using morse! Which was a thing I didn't even know how to do 7 years ago. 73!
