The Opera House was an important center of social life in Gallup for many years. Weddings, theatrical performances, dances, political meetings, boxing matches and a variety of other events took place there. The first floor was originally occupied by a grand saloon and cafe. The Opera Hall closed in 1952.

Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonial began before a paved road to Gallup existed. Participants would start arriving by foot, horse, and carts in the days leading up to the event. That tradition is acknowledged with the parades at the Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial on Thursday evening and the second Saturday of the event.

Lots of people reference Hatch green chile as if it is a variety of chile. It is not. Hatch is a place with good soil for chile crops (and other produce). The farmers in that area grow several varieties of chile, from mild to wild. #NewMexico #smalltownUSA #spicy #foodie

Chama is a small, scenic town in northern New Mexico, about 7 miles south of the Colorado border. It is fairly well known due to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic #Railroad and the Continental Divide Trail. - https://newmexiconomad.com/chama/

The history of Hillsboro, Kingston, and Lake Valley are intertwined. All three communities were established between 1877-1882 with the discovery of silver and gold deposits. In total, there were over 9,900 mines around Hillsboro. Those mines produced 100,000 troy ounces of gold between 1893-1898.

Cerrillos Coal Company began mining in Madrid around 1835. It was Coal Gulch before it was Madrid. They built the entire town, including a 6.5 mile standard gauge railroad spur connecting the community to the main line of the Santa Fe Railroad by 1892. The town produced 250,000 tons of coal a year at its peak, with a population larger than Albuquerque.

Home to over 20,000 people, #Gallup is the largest community between Flagstaff and Albuquerque. Due to the remote location, the city is the primary transportation and financial hub for the Four Corners area, providing services for approximately 120,000 people who live in the surrounding area.
