  1. After a successful yesterday bluebell hunting, my mate & I went to #Slimbridge WWT to try & see the cranes.

After failing to see them at the predicted hide, we consoled ourselves with lunch, then tried to do the estuary walk, but found it closed. So we made a last minute decision & went up the Estuary Tower. As I scanned the wet land… "Crane!" I'd found 4 of them on the opposite side of the site.

So yeah, I have achieved this weekend!

  2. Day 22 of the 2024 #dragonfly #AdventCalendar. Black-tailed Skimmer, seen from an unusual angle, looking down at one sunbathing on a low fence. The green eyes distinguish it from the related Keeled Skimmer from this angle where the colour of the abdomen is harder to see. At #WWT #Slimbridge last summer. #DragonflyAdventCalendar #invertebrates #ukwildlife #photography

  3. A brief (5s) but good view of the White-spotted Bluethroat (last year was much better but hey, that's the way it goes) at WWT Slimbridge earlier.

Good supporting cast including these Barnacle Goose having a squabble ..... should have dubbed the Benny Hill ‘Chase’ music on…

  4. Last Sunday at #Slimbridge - the Spotted Redshank that's been there for a while and in this picture is starting to change into breeding plumage. #Birds #UKWildlife

  5. One of my favourite photographs from 2016- this one was taken at Slimbridge Wetland Centre. The swan pictured here is a juvenile, a cygnet, that's why the feathering is grey rather than white.

  6. Two from #Slimbridge and two from #Wiltshire during the week - White Bryony, Bristly Ox-tongue, Meadowsweet (with a rather splendid #beetle which I think is a Spotted Longhorn Beetle) and Ragwort (plus a Small Skipper #butterfly). #WildflowerHour #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #plantscience #photography

  7. One of the Daves and I made the trip up the M5 today to WWT Slimbridge. We had a great day out and saw 46 species of birds including Common Crane, White-fronted Goose, Bewick Swan and the White-rumped Sandpiper (a rare visitor to the UK).

  8. @Nslbirding How lovely to see a neighbour here! I'm just down the road from you.

We love #Slimbridge #WWT too - we were there last week. Our first time since the pandemic, and it has changed. Sad not to be able to feed the #birds because of #AvianFlu, but it's such a peaceful place to wander around, and we caught the #WildBird feed at sunset.
