Every three years, I redraw a set of doodles from 2016.
With today's... trends, to put it lightly, it's nice to remind myself that #Art is made through #SkillNotTalent, and that it takes time and effort to get better it – but the important thing is that you do get better!

So while I was finding all my magic cards to sell off, I found my other, much larger miniatures case, with some unpainted minis (including a couple star wars mini commissions I never got around to, sorry to whoever I cheated in college). These are the painted ones. The clown-lookin guy is supposed to be a high elf holding a sword overhead, I think, but the paint job was awful and the sword broke.

The guy on the left was my attempt to paint the guy from the cover of Weasel's Luck, which the mini was obviously based on. The pose was probably altered to make the mold easier in metal.
I think I didn't do too bad for a guy with basically no paints and no tutoring in how to paint minis.

I was digging through post-moving boxes from 5 years ago for a specific sort of electronics cable and happened upon my old box of minis.
These minis date back to late high school, early college, when I had a few pots of Testors paints, two brushes, and had no idea what a "wash" or "dry brushing" were.
What a difference a year of practice and the internet makes.
To strip, or not to strip?

Since i have no new art i thought i could share more of my ancient art, from1987 or 88. I was already 15/16 and in art school, ugh! But we didn't exercise in funny animals art so thats my excuse. Keep working, never lose determination!

There was a #SkillNotTalent tag going around a few days ago that I had a lot of fun sharing old art for! I love seeing art glow-ups; it's so satisfying (and also really puts into perspective just how long it takes to gain mastery of a new skill!)
Here's 2002 vs 2022 from yours truly :)

I know this tag is mostly for art, but why not self inserting myself (as always) with music.

#SkillNotTalentFor fun, here's a comparison of one of my oldest neopets art with my latest one that I did for a zine!
One of my fixations as a kid was neopets so couldn't resist doing this comparison!#MastoArt #CreativeToots #ArtistsOnMastodon #Improvement #Fanart #Neopets #DrewThisWrongsuethink

#SkillNotTalentI love improvement art memes so when I saw this trending on bird app (for good reason), you know I had to jump in on this lol
It took me a LONG time to get where I am today in my art journey and I still got a long way to go. Honestly, I'm proud of how far I've come along and if a young me could see how her art would have evolved, I think that would just blow her mind lol

CW: Art progress comparison. CW: Eye contact.
late 2019 -> late 2022
Picked up #Blender back in 2019 after giving up two years earlier.
I've always wanted this kind of style and it's only recently that I got it right. I guess I got distracted too many times.
I wasn't even confident enough to render it back then.

Feel like a good time to bring thoses back #SkillNotTalent (My previous post would have been better with the extra old art stuff but I don't have the files anymore)

2002 > 2022 #skillnottalent #MastoArt Honestly I think the most important is having fun. I always drew because I liked to, and sure I try to be better but mostly, the important part is having fun.

It's important to remember art is a marathon, not a race. We all start somewhere, and that starting point is usually pretty embarrassing. And that's fine. I can't find much of my #mecha art past 2013 but not sure I'd want to anyway.

2021 for a pixel dailie of a clastlevania redrawn // 2022 of a castlevania redrawn (not complete) -
I've seen #SkillNotTalent hashtag going around.
Agreed! Practice, patience, experimentation and most importantly I feel, comfort and enjoyment in the process of the make.
Here are my first and most recent clay models and digital drawings.
Still learning and refining. -
