Using bearings 200 km away, the Indian #mathematician Radhanath #Sikdar discovers that "Peak XV" in the #Himalaya is the tallest #mountain of the world. Four years later, the #British named the mountain "#MountEverest" after Sikdars supervisor Sir George Everest. He wasn't overly excited because he realised that his name would be hard to pronounce for the locals.
