I'm tempted to write a standalone novella with the prepper aspects of the story focused on first aid and hygiene needs.
There are many things to consider when preparing for the worst, but what's the point of having stocks of food, ammo, etc. if you promptly die from an infection because you didn't manage hygiene and have proper first aid?

I initially started loving it because of how widely confusing it is. All those #plants look very much the same! In 2021 a paper appeared that investigated the genetics and it turned out it's even better - it was all wrong! The paper rearranged the genera, combined some xD it's a clusterfuck and I love it even more.

The large scale #blackout in #Spain and #Portugal caught my attention for multiple reasons.
First, it's an example of the kind of disruption that is much less personally disruptive if you've prepared adequately for emergencies.
Also, it reminded me of the backstory of my #postapocalyptic Island Survival series. Let's keep that scenario in fiction, people!

Tip to save your life.
If you ever need to call for help in an emergency (police/fire/rescue/etc) you need to give your location. What if you are not at a street address or you do not know the address?
GPS chips in phones all basically work the same way. They produce (1) your latitude longitude coordinates in decimal degrees and (2) an accuracy value in meters.
Caution! When you first turn location services ‘on’ the accuracy value could easily be over 5,000 meters.
Caution! Some software (looking at you Google maps) only displays coordinates and does not display the equally important accuracy value.

To give it a try, open FindMeSAR, scroll down and tap ‘No’ and then give permission to use your location. Now tap ‘Next format’ to scroll through the various formats.
For instructions on how to install it for offline use, tap ‘Tips’.

My wife who was normally at best tolerant of my tinkering with radios asked me about #meshtastic yesterday. Apparently she's becoming more interested in #shtf options for communications, and we spent some time talking about the radios I have and how they could be used in emergencies. I'm pondering writing up an overview/beginner guide to types of radio and how they can be used. Does anyone have a reference they like? Would people be interested?

Is this, as he says, basically a burn-it-all-to-the-ground-and-go-it-without-them moment? Not exactly. It's a lot more subtle, but still momentous.
Today will be remembered in the future as the day things changed between the #USA and the world. For generations, countries around the world have complained of American hegemony, but largely haven't done anything about it. The "old world" has remained in orbit around the USA.
Today, #Canada said "Enough of this shit."
Someone had to start the ball rolling on creating the new world order now that the USA is not only an "unreliable partner" as some have stated, but is instead descending into chaotic autocracy. I'm proud that it was Canada that took this first step.
Make no mistake, this is a first step. I believe the rest of the #dominoes will fall very quickly now that the psychological barrier has been broken.
Historians may see this as the beginning of the end of #American dominance in economics, politics, defence... everything. The end of the US dollar as the de-facto world reserve currency.
If that happens, and China stops buying US T-Bills, it becomes a true #SHTF moment for the USA.
If you're holding US dollars in your retirement savings, today might be a good day to start looking elsewhere.

When #SHTF, I'm sure you will need #community, #solidarity and stable #relationships at a local level a little more than you'll need a 2y supply of freeze-dried meals.
Though it can't hurt to download #books and #information now that you once believed would be treasured as heritage of humankind – and never be burned, or rewritten to suit the needs of fanatics with fragile egos.
