Trongate night Sharmanka – and sad GoMA memories

I spotted this neat view of the Sharmanka exhibits in Trongate 103 last night, and had to try for a pic. I’d give a link, but sadly, they only seem to have a Facecrook presence online.

I didn’t expect it to work, since I’ve had some complete disasters trying to catch pics of monochromatic scenes recently, but this came out well.

For those aware of histograms, this one’s odd – despite being predominantly blue, the histogram shows near equal amounts of red and green. Going by the histogram alone, I wouldn’t expect to see any dominant colour in the image. I’ve been taught not to try to guess the colour of a pic bases on the histogram, and this image certainly proves the value of that advice.

GoMA?

I mention the Gallery of Modern Art in the title.

When it opened, it had a Sharmanka display of (three, I think) large pieces, which gave performance on the hour.

This was one of favourite reasons for visiting GoMA, but this eventually disappeared as, I’m sad to say, have nearly of the best exhibits that once lived there.

I do still visit, but only rarely, and no longer seem to find any reasons to hurry back.

Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre, is a wonderful little museum showcasing kinetic sculptures of Russsian artist Eduard Bersudsky. The work is displayed through a theatrical presentation with music and light. Reminded me works of Quay Brothers and Jan Schwankmeyer. https://sharmanka.com/ #sharmanka #glasgow

I also went to the Sharmanka Kinematic Theatre (and will be going again on Sunday) and for reasons I can't explain, really want to re-read The Cyberiad...
