The Geometry of Breaking or Healing

Those are the two options.

To be part of the destruction of that which is precious,
even the life of the enemy.
Or a conduit for the substance that binds up wounds and the broken-hearted.

Even when flaws cause me to hurt those around me or engage in broken thoughts and so, for a time, join with the razing power,
if I am repentant, make the necessary changes, and return to the healing stream,
then the danger of losing my humanity is minimized.

And, if at the end of my life when I am weighed in the balance, and my contribution to fixing outweighs the breaking, then I will be satisfied to rest easy in the knowledge that in some small way I was an addition to the healing sum.

Heute hatte ich die Ehre, zum Pädagogischen Tag der Gewerblichen Schule Schwäbisch Hall (GBS) zu sprechen. Die außerordentlich engagierte Schulleitung & Lehrerschaft engagiert sich mit der sehr vielfältigen Schülerschaft gegen Antisemitismus & Antiziganismus, u.a. mit Besuchen der KZ Gedenkstätte Hessental, mit Friedenspädagogik & einem preisgekrönten Spiel sowie mit Begegnungs- & Hilfsaktionen für Roma in Rumänien.

Ich war & bin nicht nur beeindruckt, sondern auch dankbar. Denn so wird der v.a. digitalen Radikalisierung junger Menschen stark und wirksam entgegengewirkt. Und wenn wir auch nie alle erreichen werden: Jede Seele zählt! (3/3)

I have largely avoided news from #Israel and #Palestine over the last few days, but jumped over to #Haaretz a moment ago and am horrified by the headlines.

I don't have any great wisdom to add to the conversation, except to say that this not ok. None of it is:-- raids on the Al-aqsa mosque, rocket attacks on civilian populations in Israel, the use of indiscriminate firepower in densely populated #gaza... all of it is evil and should be called out as such.

#Passover is a time of celebrating liberation and practicing hospitality. It is not a time for war.

I know it is a shorthand we all use to speak of Israel and Palestine as singular entities, but in reality both nations are fractious messes, full of people with very different perspectives, and varying degrees of actual democracy.

There are many Palestinians and Israelis who want a real and lasting #peace. They just aren't being heard right now.
