  1. A simple technology and business question. “What technology initiative promoted by Mark Zuckerberg has been successful?

Per the SF Chronicle, “Meta starts laying off some 8,000 workers”. And, that Meta will have 2026 capital expenditures on the order of $115 to $135 billion dollars mostly on AI.

The employee that should be laid-off is Zuckerberg. Yet again he's squandering billions of dollars on yet another Zuckerberg shinny object that he calls “Superintelligence".

  3. Big Art Loop in San Francisco.

I read about this in the SF Chronicle this morning which focused on a cool new piece that was installed (article is behind a paywall).

It’s a 34 mile loop, effectively around the city, displaying large art sculptures. Looks like a great opportunity to view unique art pieces.

I’m thinking that this would be a great day trip and bike ride for my Santa Cruz bike club.

  5. #Niners #NFL . . .

All of the "experts" (even our local #SFChronicle sports writers) are predicting that the Niners will lose to the #Seahawks again today. 😠

The Seahawks are still -7 betting favorites & ESPN still has them winning by 60/40.

Hope Shanahan has come up with some good ideas on how to outplay the Seahawks' D which shut down the Niners 2 weeks ago.

If he does, they'll win as long as the Niners' D repeats what they did before. If not, it probably will be a repeat of week 18. 🤷‍♂️

    Go Niners!!! 🥳🥳🥳

  6. @maxmcc The number of restaurant/bar closings that the #SFChronicle reports daily is never ending.

It's a wonder that there are any restaurants/bars still open. 🤷‍♂️

  8. #sfba - to be fair the article has beautiful analysis like this

„“We’ve always had a mansion shortage in San Francisco. The problem is, for the past three years, we’ve also had a buyer shortage. But, now the buyers are back,” he said

  10. #SF #TouristAttractions

The #SFChronicle is doing a poll of how many SF Tourist Attractions you have or haven't visited. Native San Franciscans & Migrants (anyone who isn't a Native San Franciscan) can participate.

Out of the 12 mentioned the only one that I haven't done is a walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. Reason: Too long of a walk.

The view from either end of the bridge is good enough for me. I've done both -- parked at the north & south ends to look at the views -- many times.

I've often looked at the bridge while laying on the nudist end of Baker's Beach & from the top of the hill going towards Pt. Lobos -- the view often used in TV commercials.

I've also viewed the bridge from a far & below on a Red & White bay ferry cruise. & on trips to Sausalito.

And, of course, I've often seen the bridge & The City exiting the Robbin Williams tunnel going towards the bridge is one of the most breathtaking views in the world.
You can take the poll here if you're interested:

  14. Photos: ‘Distress flag’ protests Yosemite cuts as crowds view firefall - #SFchronicle

    We hebben een exportproduct.. 😉

Maar het zou me niets verbazen als de 'distress flag' meer gaan zien de komende tijd.
(En de ongetwijfeld zeer felle reacties er op)

  16. Sam Whiting: Strange de Jim, San Francisco quipster for Herb Caen and Leah Garchik, dies at 81

"Strange de Jim was a full-time spinner of quips, a career that did not pay beyond the reward of seeing his pseudonym in Herb Caen’s column. This was also the reward for Chronicle readers who associated the name Strange de Jim with a clever take on the human comedy.

Strange, as he was known, even to family members, did it better than anybody over the course of 25 years and when Caen died, in 1997, he was selected as a speaker at the memorial for a man he’d only met once. Staying in character, he solemnly strode to the pulpit at Grace Cathedral wearing a paper bag over his head, one last joke to protect the identity of his alter ego — Jim Riffe, a systems analyst originally from West Virginia."

  17. There was a lovely article this week in the #SFChronicle by Esther Mobley celebrating Steve Edmunds. He’s made soulful wines for 40 years, in a style that’s been consistent with who he is: thoughtful, understated, respectful of tradition without being bound by it.

I’m very happy #RhoneRangers will be honoring him with a lifetime achievement award this summer, and he’ll get the chance to see how much his work has meant to those of us in the American Rhone community.

  19. #SFChronicle #SFGate #MercureyNews continue to disappoint with clickbait lede-burying advice-column shallow-hot-take op-ed journalism. I'm wondering how long it will take any Bay Area newspaper to notice the passing of Berkeley's famed poet #LynHejinian.
