The trick is...
To find people who are good at fixing your stuff in a small town, you just have to stumble across one good service tech and then ask them who they use when they have a problem with their house.
I asked our furnace guy who he recommends for plumbing and he said "Those guys off of Main street. Their building looks like hell but they're really good plumbers. They eat gas station sandwiches, so they're good plumbers."
It took me a minute.
