2) I fixed drivetrain, replaced handgrips, taped up seat (do not have a new one that size), added training wheels, tassels, bell. Used whitewall cleaner on tires. I had hoped to make it a Ramadan gift, but missed that by a mile.

2 I have on hand that should get these and a couple more to some kids for the summer. I will add the chain guards to the wish list. I bought these for expediency but it does add up!
4th pic is another bike on my repair stand with a plastic chain guard hanging in front of it. This bike also needs a replacement chain if my rust blaster solvent does not fully loosen it.

This morning I got a phone call from the vet in the above thread. He called to thank me for all the work i did on his bike. Said it is like new, and he has had some great rides. He mentioned specifically how much he appreciates the luggage rack

Dad thinks the garage is his workshop for fixing bikes and tools and stuff but it is MINE!

who said he had broken the chain on the bike I provided him a year or so ago. The bike had other problems. There were scrape maks on the rear derailleur indicating it had been impacted. The mounting was bent; chain misaligned. The break had probably occurred in that incident. I (more)⤵️

Just a not-subtle hint here: adding a basket or rear luggage rack to these donated bikes makes a HUGE difference to folks who use it for transport to work or shopping. But i just don't have the $ to buy them. My steady stream of $donations and in-kind donations via my Amazon wish list dried up when Covid put donors out of work. I raised a few $100 in $donations last year working a bike clinic, but cannot do it this year.

I picked up six donated bikes yesterday from a Trek dealership that takes trade-ins and also gets donations dropped off. They had lost my phone #, went to my website and sent email to the account I post there. They kept them hoping to find me altho they needed space and could have put in dumpster. I was busy building a patio and chicken run in Az., not checking that email account.

Back in January my wife saw an appeal on a fb group she belongs to that provides support to asylum seeker families in the area. An ESL teacher in a nearby high school was seeking any kind of work - yard work, cleaning, whatever for one of his students. I had previously hired him to help with a project and was pleased wih his hard work, can-do attitude. I had a fence to repair so I said I could use him. Then they asked could I use two? I do not often have any contact with recipients of the bikes I furnish people through agencies. But oh, my, when I do!

I put a label on each bike saying "prepared especially for you by Second Chance Bikes" and to call me if any problems, with my cell number. The labels were a gift to me from my adult daughter, as were the decorative streamers in handlebar ends that I affixed last night.

So tonight I missed a call but got these texts from the same number:
