  1. Of course I selected that screen cap for a moment of me actually working. Quite a bit of the log looks more like this.

I watched the entirety of "Cosmos: Possible Worlds" and played innumerable fidget puzzle games to pass the time while waiting on renders.

That's the stuff I cut out of the record. I still don't have a really good way of representing how much time was spent waiting on things. No matter how much I try to multitask, there is always quite a bit of this.

One problem with multitasking is that it can be distracting and deflecting -- if I get too involved in the standby activity, then I forget to check for the thing I'm supposedly waiting on.

It's like when I put the kettle on for tea, but then forget about it and let all the water boil away. Only so much room in my head to keep track of multiple processes.

  5. Sometimes I think that I could probably automate some of this video editing.

But then I think: the act of editing is a meditation on the content edited.

And that meditation is actually more the point here than achieving the artifact of the finished edit.

It's kind of like how the process of taking or copying notes is a part of the study process. The point is not to achieve the neatly-written notebook, it's to review and process your understanding of the material.

Here, it's for me to look critically at how I work. What worked well? How much time did I waste on dead ends? When did I do the best work? And so on.

This is part of how I've come to cope with my ADHD/ASD "executive dysfunction" -- by externalizing it for examination and feedback. I've been keeping it up since 2019, and well, it seems to be useful for me, thought it does take a non-trivial amount of time.

  10. Editing this latest batch of screenlogs is a chore (just about halfway through December, now). I worked a lot of longer days, so there's a lot of footage. Also, when I'm doing a lot of rendering, there's more task-switching, so more edits to make to summarize it.

But these will among the most valuable ones for estimating my maximum real output.

I'm hoping to get a useful number for estimating production time on episode two, then follow through with that and see if I can't actually get it done in the predicted time.

It'd be a real confidence builder if I could.
