  1. Quite excited about a bunch of #venturer #scouts being excited for another night doing #freediving with me. Finished the planning and risk control documentation today. Ready for next week.

  2. Every year I grow lot's of plants for the plant sale for our local #Scouts group.
    This was just before we opened. Not much left now.

    Met lots of lovely people.

  7. Hmm, just ran a 'Spy Night' with the #scouts last night. It was a bit of a mixed bag. I'd put hours into preparing it, but it mostly fell apart when I tried to print out my work sheets last nights, and my home laser printer gave up. So I was 20 mins late, and I couldn't run through the plan with the other leaders to get the right knowledge for supporting the patrols on the different stations :-(

    Running through it, I know now what needs to be changed to make it better, where I wasn't aware without a good 'dry run' that some things were a bit too complex.

    Content wise, this was covered:

    * Message transmission and encoding:
    - Tap code
    - Morse code
    * symmetric ciphers:
    - Pig Pen (Masonic) cipher
    - Caesar cipher
    - Rail Fence cipher
    - Vignere cipher (didn't get to it, needs to be cut)
    * steganography:
    - Invisible ink (lemon juice)
    - First letters of words in a paragraph
    - A cut out mask over a (book) page

    The Great Saunter reminiscing in this episode reminded me of doing the Scouts Ardnavalley Walk every year from 11 to 18 while I was in the Scouts.

    It was a 26 mile walk, with check-in stations roughly every couple of miles. It was great fun.

  18. Group Scout camp weekend. I am not there (yet) as I'd already made plans to see friends who live on the other side of the country.

    I will, however, be hot-footing it back later to spend the night on site with our 16ish Beavers (out of around 60 or so who are on camp in total). One of the Beavers has a birthday tomorrow, so there will be cake for breakfast!

    Pictured: my partner-in-crime Jess. We've both stepped into Co-Team Leader since this photo from the last camp.

  26. #Sonos play 3 on the bench today, with the well known psu fault caused by crap capacitors and poor design. Customer wasn’t keen to repair as the unit wasn’t worth much… but I suggested it would be better if it was repaired rather than thrown away, and I would do it for cost of components if they made a donation to our local scout group. Win win in my eyes. #repaircafe #RepairReuseRecycle #sonos #electronics #myphoto #aberdeenshire #skillsforlife #scouts
