Dare to Be Negative!
Do you remember analog photo negatives? I still have some, tucked away deep in the archives. I always found them eerie and uncanny. Humans turned into zombies with black teeth. Burnt orange, weird cyan and violet everywhere. But what did I expect? We don't have an intuition for addition or subtraction of colors. Would you "expect" red and green adding up to yellow? The exact opposites of our usual, friendly red-yellow-green-blue are uncommon in the real world. I once tried to create […] -
My Posts Escaped. And So Did I! Or: Math is My Blanket!
I did maintenance work on my blog, touching all the posts. As my blog is also a Fediverse instance needed to take great care that changed blogs did not get posted there again. Of course, some of them escaped, and I had to post - again - writing about this! I found a workaround to keep posts from escaping, but it was error-prone. If you absolutely need to know: Older posts were seemingly configured for "Do not federate". But yet: I had to explicitly set as being federated, and then configure […]https://elkement.art/2025/11/27/my-posts-escaped-and-so-did-i-or-math-is-my-blanket/

Circles to Circles #3. Using the Invisible Simple Box
When you do your geometry homework, everything fits nicely on a sheet of standard paper. Problems have been carefully designed to make this happen! I had never appreciated this - until I created my own geometry challenges. Either the different views were overlapping too much or interesting features were pushed beyond the edges of the paper. Lines were intersecting at such shallow angles that the intersection points could not be determined exactly. To make at least the orthographic view more […]https://elkement.art/2025/05/25/circles-to-circles-3-using-the-invisible-simple-box/
