Plan für heute: zunächst als motivierte #saturdayLibrarian im Dienst, danach dann zum Klimastreik zum Römerberg @libraries4future @netzwerkgruenebibliothek

Mein heutiger Samstagsdienst sieht übrigens so aus:

- ins Büro fahren, Material holen
- den Workshop im sprachraum vorbereiten
- ab auf die Hohe Str. zum regulären Dienst
- zurück in den Sprachraum und abbauen
- wieder ins Büro, Material wegbringen
-Feierabend

i was researching how breadfruit trees were moved around the world by colonials and came across this quote on the wikipedia entry for william bligh: "In order to win a premium offered by the Royal Society, he first sailed to Tahiti to obtain breadfruit trees"

it's not the first time i've seen references to royal society competitions/prizes/quests and i'd like to learn more about this subject.

but the histories of the royal society that i've come across so far have been in that sort of "heroic colonial"/"great man" mode.

i'm looking for something that's more along the lines of "what role did the royal society have to play in the movement of plants and other organisms?" it seems like they were putting out these "challenges" for "explorers", but that's where my knowledge ends.

i'd also be happy to read a book that's about the role of the royal society in empire-building & colonialism in general.

Am frühen Nachmittag soll der Gruppenwettkampf beginnen. Da hüpft und flattert jetzt so einiges, weil 1. Jahr 1. Bundesliga und dann gleich schon die Teilnahme an der Weltmeisterschaft

Bin gespannt, was der Samstag heute im Dienst so bringt, wenn viele Dienste des GBV dieses Wochenende offline sind. Wie gefragt sind wir oder wird es ohne Hilfestellung gehen?

We had competing groups using our meeting rooms today. In one, a preacher mad in the abstract about drag queen story times, holding a pastors story time to tell kids his vision of gender. In reaction a local social justice organization held a story time with a drag queen. Afterwards the partisans had a long dialog in the narrow hallway dividing the two rooms. No violence, no problems. I doubt anyone went away converted to the proposition that the other side was right. #saturdaylibrarian
