Pook-Emu Bee: Links For 04-19-26
Pook-Emu Bee was off yesterday because it was Newsletter day. But the newsletter is out, and Pook-Emu Bee links are back. 1. FDNY changes policy after clout-chasing models turn NYC fire station into their own sorority house (Tina Moore for the New York Post. April 18, 2026.) The change came after The Post exclusively reported Saturday that two models turned a Greenwich Village fire station into their own personal sorority house — sauntering inside with firefighters, climbing on a […]https://social.emucafe.org/naferrell/pook-emu-bee-links-for-04-19-26/

How can a talented NBA player have “negative” trade value? Because the NBA has a salary cap and various rules making it impossible or financially punishing to add players beyond a certain threshold, the player’s on-court value does not match the value of his contract can lead to a player effectively having negative value, meaning that the team seeking to move the player would have to attach additional assets (often draft picks) or take back bad contracts in order to complete a trade. A December 3, 2025 report by Tim McMahon and Bobby Marks for ESPN suggests that star guards Trae Young, Ja Morant, and LaMelo Ball may be seen as having “negative value” around the NBA due to the perceived mismatch between the size of their contracts (or what it would cost to re-sign, in the case of Mr. Young) and their in-game contributions (granting additional off-court concerns about Mr. Morant). I am not following the NBA closely enough to have an informed opinion about the trade value of Messrs. Young, Morant, and Ball, but I share the link because it provides a good explainer of trade value in a salary cap/luxury tax-constrained environment.

A Fresh Approach to Limiting CEO Pay — and Saving Our Environment
A newly drafted Salary Cap Act would powerfully discourage the corporate decisions that so endanger our future.
March 11, 2024
by Daniel Wortel-London"The compensation of oil company top executives, for instance, links intimately to exploring for new #fossilfuel fields, extracting ever more oil, and promoting still more carbon consumption. Top #BigOil corporate chiefs, as Richard Heede of the Climate Accountability Institute observes, 'have personal ownership of tens or hundreds of thousands of shares' and that 'creates an unacknowledged personal desire to explore, extract, and sell fossil fuels.'"
