  1. Taking the dogs for a quick walk and then we'll be on our way into the park with the final destination for this evening at Furnace Creek. From there, I'll decide whether I'll start the trip home or spend more time in the park. I've been here at least a dozen times, so I'm really sitting on the fence about staying. It all depends on the wildflowers. #RoadTrip #RVing #DeathValley

  2. It's actually feeling a little bit like it wants to storm. The wind just kicked up, although it's not enough to really get the RV rocking. I'm so tempted to just spend the day here and continue on my way tomorrow, but I'm really thinking about being home. The sooner I leave here, the sooner I can be home.#RoadTrip #RVing

  3. It is so dark here and my eyes are so adjusted to the dark that I just made coffee with a kettle of water, stove, and immersion drip device using only the light of the stove flame and my iPad to see.

And although it's dead quiet, my tinnitus is just whispering this morning. For a while, I didn't hear it at all. How pleasant!

Later I'll drive back up to the paved road, drop down over Jubilee Pass, and be in Death Valley. #RoadTrip #RVing

  4. I found a place to camp overnight just outside of #DeathValley National Park, not far from Jubilee Pass. I wanted to enter the park from the south along Badwater Road but I want to take my time getting up to Furnace Creek. It was too late in the day to make the whole drive without rushing, so I decided to camp here and continue on into the park tomorrow. This is BLM land, so I could fly my drone. #RVing #RoadTrip

  5. Hitting the road! We're leaving a lot earlier than I expected to. I think I'll stop along the road by the hot spring and see if it's worth taking one last dip. #RoadTrip #Rving

  6. Did it in the first try. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜Š You try hooking up a trailer by yourself with no view out the back window and no backup camera and see how many tries it takes you. And no, they weren't already aligned. And I did have the extra challenge of not jackknifing.

Next I'll stow the block and the rug I idiotically put under it. πŸ™„ last is the hummingbird feeder. #Rving #RoadTrip

  7. I've lowered the camper down onto the truck by retracting all four of its legs. Apparently there was enough juice in the batteries to do that. As you can see, the trailer hitch sticks out so I can hook up the utility trailer. But first I need to strap down the camper so it doesn't roll off on a curve. That would be a bad thing.😬 #RVing #RoadTrip

  8. While the legs are pretty much fully extended, I apply silicone to the runners on the legs to help keep them clean and moving smoothly. I do this pretty much every time I put the camper back on the truck. I do not like to extend the legs to their full up position without the truck underneath.

It's worth mentioning here that in very windy conditions, cranking the camper all the way up on its legs is very risky. The camper weighs 3400 pounds and those legs are skinny. #Rving #RoadTrip

  9. Well, that's always fun. If I get it just right there's a 2–3 inch gap between the bottom of the camper and the side of the truck tailgate. I did pretty good today without too much re-maneuvering. I need to get it about 3/4 of the way under the camper before I plug in the power, which is on the bed. Then I back it up the rest of the way, but not all the way. I leave a small gap in front or the camper presses on one of my tail light lenses. #RVing #RoadTrip

  10. I bought these two yellow jacks to help stabilize the camper when it's off the truck. The camper has 4 legs; the front ones are shown here. Those other two hanging bars are two of the jack screws that fasten the camper to the truck. #RVing #RoadTrip

  11. In order to pull my cargo trailer behind my truck with the camper on it, I have to install an extension between the truck and the hitch. #RoadTrip #RVing

  12. Reorganizing the back of the utility trailer was brutal hard work and, of course, I waited too long to get started and it was HOT. But the job is done and everything that needs to go back there is secure β€” except the 2x4 folding table, camp chair, and portable solar panel I'm using. #RoadTrip #RVing

  13. I'd say about 50% of the people camped here at the Hot Springs are full-time RVers. I spoke to a guy this morning who sold everything he owned, bought a camper, and hit the road. He hasn't looked back. I'm not quite brave enough to do that and, if I were, I do it with a boat. The main thing stopping me from selling my home and going nomad is the crazy tax hit I'd have to take on the sale. #RVing

  14. At this campsite, I'm using #solar power to run my camper and run/charge all electronic devices, including my ebike. Although my camper does not have an inverter for AC power, the trailer does. I use the portable solar panel to keep the trailer battery charged and charge the ebike and my DJI 500 W power pack with that inverter. The trick is to get all devices charged before around 2 PM so there's enough afternoon sunlight to top off the batteries before nightfall. #RVing #RoadTrip

  15. Sent the drone up for a shot of my #desert campsite. I unhitched the trailer and dropped the camper off the truck. The portable #solar panel is charging the trailer’s batteries; the panels on my camper roof charge the camper. Still haven’t used my generator this season. I don’t have any close neighbors, which is fine with me.

As you can see, there’s nothing really special about this area. What amazes me is how many people spend MONTHS here. Two weeks is usually enough for me. #RVing #RoadTrip

  16. Meanwhile, my neighbor, who is in the spot that I was hoping to get, does have a generator on their very fancy motorhome but it's not very loud. I don't think it's going to be bothersome. #RVing

A man drove by pulling a trailer full of junk and dragging a metal ramp. For a moment, I thought he might park nearby, but he kept going. I don't think the folks who take care of this campground would let someone like that stay in here. (2/2)

  17. Every year, the bandwidth at the Hot Spring via Verizon is better. It's about three times the speed it was when I made that video (linked to earlier) back in 2022.

It doesn't look like I'll be needing my Starlink here. #RVing #RoadTrip

  18. First, I refuse to doomscroll. And yes, I do know what's going on. And yes, I do care. Doomscrolling will not help me or anyone else. I wish more people would understand that, for their own mental well-being.

Second, today is moving day. I'll fill my water tank and dump my waste tanks and pull out of the campground this morning. I'm hoping I can get a parking spot at the powwow rock show for one last quick walk around. Then I'll hit the road, heading southwest. #RVing #RoadTrip (1/2)

  19. Rain in the area, but it's mostly virga. Sun has just gone down. Tomorrow is moving day but I'll probably make one more stop at the big Powwow rock show before I leave town. Much quieter tonight in the campground/RV parking lot than it was last night when the group parked across the aisle from me was having a raucous party.#RVing #Arizona #Quartzsite

  20. One nice thing about this campground is that they pick up your trash for you. You just put your tied up bags along the road and they come fetch them. So that's kind of nice. I had a lot of trash from five days of Boondocking. #RVing

  21. The campground in Quartzsite is a very large, flat, gravel lot with lines painted on it to denote the campsites. My site is very large and pull through, with electric, water, and sewer. No picnic table, no fire pit. The campground doesn't have restrooms or showers or laundry. It's walking or biking distance to everywhere I have to go in town, so it's convenient. But it's also within earshot of the I-10 freeway and route 95 to Yuma. I hear my neighbors. $210 for 3 nights. Ouch. #RVing #RoadTrip

  22. Today is moving day! After doing my chores and securing everything on board my camper, I'll bounce my way out of here and head up to Buckeye. I figured I'd do a load of laundry and some grocery shopping and maybe top off a propane tank. I'll definitely get fuel for the truck.

I've got three nights reserved at a full hook up campground in Quartzsite starting today, so I'll do an RV refresh there and treat myself to a nice hot shower this evening.

    Tomorrow, rock shows! #RVing #RoadTrip

  23. In the meantime, I booked 3 nights starting Thursday at a campground in Quartzsite that I've stayed at in the past. I only wanted 2 nights but they had a three night minimum so I went with it. It's extremely convenient to the places I need to go, so I can take my ebike. And because it's a full hook up, I won't have to find another campground afterward to refresh the RV. But it certainly was a lot pricier than I expected.πŸ˜³πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ #RoadTrip #RVing (2/2)

  24. OK, here are the two best #drone shots of my campsite this afternoon. Yes, I am close to the road, but I estimate about a dozen vehicles went by today, so it's not a big deal. They don't even kick up very much dust.

The video came out great but my instance doesn't seem to allow video uploads. If I ever get it on YouTube, I'll link to it.

I'll be practicing with the drone again tomorrow. I need to really understand and learn all of its features.

  25. @User47 @Jillianmarisa Have you considered a Brita filter? I use that on my tap water at home to get the occasional chlorine flavor out.

While #RVing, I fill water bottles and 6-gallon jugs at campgrounds running everything through a dedicated fresh water hose and inline filter. But for drinking water, I buy 1-gallon jugs of spring water. If I don't like the taste of water, I won't drink it.

  26. Camping out in the desert for a few days. This is tonight's site, which I like. Not sure if I'll try looking for the actual campground tomorrow. The road is pretty gnarly. #RVing #RoadTrip

  27. Busy day yesterday: First getting my rig out of the campsite and down to Taliesen West. Then a 2 1/2 hour walking tour. Next, a stop at a laundromat to do a big wash, including all linens. Then a stop at a propane place to top off both my tanks; this requires lifting each tank to the level of my head to secure them in the propane locker. Next, grocery shopping. Then settle into my campsite.

Finally: put away all groceries and laundry and make the bed.

    I was totally spent. #RVing

  28. I am at a laundromat. Of the 5 I've used so far this travel season, this is, by far, the worst.

And WTF? $12 for a wash in a washer big enough for my comforter? #RoadTrip #RVing

  29. Moving day! I'll break camp at around 8 AM to make the 12-mile drive back down to Cave Creek and then take Pima Road into Scottsdale. Behind-the-scenes tour of Taliesen West at 10 AM, then a few hours dealing with laundry, propane refills, and grocery shopping before I head to Cave Creek Regional Park for an RV refresh overnight stay.

Not much to do here before heading out. I've already put away my portable solar panel and secured all trailer items. Just normal morning chores. #RoadTrip #RVing

  31. Things we absolutely don't have space for in our RV: a dishwasher.

Things that arrived today: a dishwasher.

It is definitely bigger than I thought it would be. But in my defense, I _really_ hate washing up so I think I'm OK with it....

  32. It’s 4Β°F (-16Β°C) here this morning. For context, that’s a little warmer than our big freezer, and a little cooler than our RV freezer right now.

  33. Skirting is on the RV, and I think we're ready for winter now! We've used 2" XPS foam board like this for the past few years and it's always worked well.

Each year we've been able to use up the foam board in building projects, so nothing goes to waste. But next year we might leave this on and just add some ventilation as it should help keep mice out of the RV - it's sealed up _really_ tight right now!

  37. This was our back yard this summer. It's called #Yonder, it's a resort in #Utah that has cabins, #airstreams, and #campsites. They have this cool drive in movie theater with a bunch of old classic cars parked out for you to watch a movie in every night.

Many resorts like this will give you cheap to free accommodations in exchange for part time work.

  38. We just moved all our stuff from the rig into a nice little apartment in Escalante, Utah.

Lot’s of people think they can’t afford to live a nomadic lifestyle, but you would be really surprised to see just how much opportunity there is for #workamping in exchange for lodging in the most beautiful places in the country.
