Back in St. Olaf we had the annual Sardine Festival on the hottest weekend of the Summer. Oh, the smell of sardines would hang over the town square for weeks, bringing back the memories of the fun we had. Of course the highlight of the weekend was the sardines tournament. You know sardines, the version of hide and seek where one person hides and everyone looks for them? Well Elmer Goodman was the Sardine Festival Champion eight years in a row! Elmer would set off and hide and it might take six or seven hours to find him. His whole family before him were sardines winners too. We used to say "A Goodman is hard to find."
