#RopeFlow is so satisfying. It’s one of those sports with so much skill involved, and many patterns to learn. Watching an experienced practitioner is mesmerising sometimes - how do they do that!? Where are they turning the wrist? How do they catch the momentum? What makes it look so effortless?
After about 5 months I’m starting to see some small (but significant) breakthroughs of my own.
Cheetah’s tail used to be untamed. There was much face smacking and unintentional speed up during a set. Recently during practice something changed. Out of nowhere, I felt a new control when pulling the rope forward on each side. I could choose to do it. I was working WITH the rope, not forcing it to swing, or being dominated by the movement myself.
It’s great when you really work, pay close attention, and “get” something. But I can find that a little cold. In contrast, working on a skill by just doing it, zoning out, letting the mistakes happen - the surprise when it feels “right” in a new way? Magic. Pure, unexpected joy.

Where my #RopeFlow peeps at, fedi!?
Recently got a Boa rope from Way of the Rope. It’s their heaviest rope at 1.4kg. Took it for a spin in earnest today and woooow it makes everything full body resistance. Here I’m doing ace/overhand throw… 12 reps per side feels like plenty 😮💨

Short run to get the legs going and to try to tire out Paddy the Irish mutt, since I'm working most of the afternoon and early evening. Boy, do I dislike flat tarmac, even if it was through a forest and the help of System of A Down and their Toxicity album. Finished off with a bit of TRX and Rope Flow.

Wasn't up for a run today. But remembered that we had a TRX strap (Calisthenics) in the van, that we haven't used for 9+ months. Boy, only 7 minutes and I was knackered, I used to do 25min sessions followed by 25min of Rope Flow, think Tai Chi with a weighted skipping rope. I sooo need to get back into this.
