Robert Johnson 2nd take Crossroads acetate discovered
'Uploaded by sound restorer Nick Dellow, it was originally made in 1940 straight from the metal master by Columbia Records producer George Avakian, who would go on to work with everyone from Miles Davis to Edith Piaf to John Cage...perhaps the unprecedented clarity of this recording will get the hair of young musicians and mature connoisseurs alike standing on end'

Everything we know, we learnt from Robert Johnson.
The crossroads is what makes life worth living. Never stand still. Constant revolution. Otherwise there’s no music, no art, no real life. We all sell our souls at some point. The important thing is to sell them for the right reasons. Nobody can have it all – but you can have rock ’n’ roll, if you let yourselves.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yd60nI4sa9A

"Seminal blues historian Elijah Wald says that Robert Johnson didn't learn how to incorporate the occult into his poetry and project his macho stage persona from the devil himself. It was from, among others, the man who called himself 'The Devil's Son-in-Law', Peetie Wheatstraw.

Me and Mr. Johnson
Slowhand's tribute to Delta blues legend Robert Johnson is released on March 23, 2004. The 14 covers are a "labor of love" and a long-held goal for Clapton to pay homage to one of his main musical influences. The band is a tad legendary, too -- Billy Preston on keyboards, Steve Gadd on drums, Nathan East on bass and Doyle Bramhall II. #ericclapton #slowhand #meandmrjohnson #blues #deltablues #robertjohnson #billypreston #stevegadd #music #musicsky…

Crossroads - soundtrack album by Ry Cooder
In addition to the many fine albums issued in his name (not to mention his extensive session work), Ry Cooder wrote the soundtracks to several movies which were released as albums.
Crossroads is based on the legend surrounding blues musician, Robert Johnson.
Johnson, whose recording career spanned less than a year, nevertheless had enormous influence on the development of the blues.
According to the legend, Johnson, at the time a plantation worker, met the devil at a crossroads and entered into a Faustian plot to become a great blues player.
The title/opening track is a Johnson composition. -

ROBERT JOHNSON
King Of The Delta Blues Singers
1963 Canada MONO reissueIt’s been a grim last couple of days in the world, folks.
In many places, for many reasons. It’s never been more important than it is right now to find your peace and solace any place you can.
For me, that place has always been music, and right now, I can’t think of an album that sounds more like how I feel inside than THIS one.
Monday night is a reset, courtesy of the great Robert Leroy Johnson.
Happiest of vibes and holidays to all of you.

Ramblin’ On My Mind is our latest single , paying homage to Robert Johnson.
The song was originally recorded in Germany to be part of a tribute album to arguably, the father of the blues. We loved it so much, they decided to release it as a single.
Enjoy.

Cowboy Junkies, Misguided Angel, 1989 on RCA
Margo, Peter, and MIchael Timmons with Alan Anton were Cowboy Junkies. This EP came out alongside the Trinity Session album, with the lead single “Misguided Angel” from that session at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Toronto, plus four live tracks recorded at the ROXY in Hollywood.
Both “Sweet Jane” and “Walking After Midnight” were also on Trinity Session. The choice of songs: covering Lou Reed, Robert Johnson, and Patsy Cline, is a pretty good implication as to the sound of Cowboy Junkies.
My copy—via A1 Records in NYC—is a US promotional copy.

Robert Johnson died on this day in 1938, at the age of 27, near Greenwood, Mississippi, of unknown causes. His death was not reported publicly; he merely disappeared from the historical record and it was not until almost 30 years later, when Gayle Dean Wardlow, a Mississippi-based musicologist researching Johnson's life, found his death certificate, which listed only the date and location, with no official cause of death. No formal autopsy was done, as a dead black man found by the side of the road near a farm, a pro forma examination was done to file the death certificate, and no immediate cause of death was determined. It is likely he had congenital syphilis and it was suspected later by medical professionals that may have been a contributing factor in his death. However, 30 years of local legend and oral tradition had, like the rest of his life story, built a legend which has filled in gaps in the scant historical record.

Lucinda Williams, Ramblin’ On My Mind, 1979 on Folkways
Attributed to “Lucinda” mono-nymically, this was Williams’ debut solo album, released in 1979 on Folkways (which became Smithsonian Folkways in 1987).
She’s accompanied by John Grimaudo on 6-string guitar (she plays 12-string and sings), and the album was produced by Tom Royals, an attorney for whom this is the only producing credit – he was a friend of her father. It was recorded at Malaco Studios in Jackson, Mississippi.
It’s a collection of blues, folk, and country covers, some traditional and some by named artists: Robert Johnson, A.P. Carter, Memphis Minnie, Sleepy John Estes, Hammie Nixon, Hank Williams, Roy Acuff, Joe Hayes and Jack Rhodes.
My copy is a 2021 reissue, but I’m not sure where I got it from.

The great rock critic Greil Marcus: "Alongside any number of sclerotic or florid readings of hallowed #RobertJohnson tunes by singers black and white, there's skinny white guy #ChrisWhitley's queer, atonal revision of the previously uncoverable "Hellhound on My Trail," ludicrous in its first notes and a dead man walking, a thing in itself, by its end."
