Ridesharing with ads ?! WTF is this nonsense ?!

Instead of condemning them for what they really are -- death machines on wheels -- the auto and oil industries have elevated ice cars to status symbol, to be desired, to be worshipped. And everyone fell for it. Well, not everyone, of course.
The sad part is that it's actually everyone, entire countries paying the price for the diabolical existence of ice cars.

Road taxes. Road rage. Road accidents. Road congestion. Road ads.
This isn't freedom. This is a self-made prison on wheels running on adware and spyware, and no amount of heated seats is going to change that.

🚗🤖 Oh joy! #Dallas is now blessed with robot chauffeurs for the masses, as if the world needed more techno-wizardry to hail a ride to the local grocery store. 🛒🎉 With nearly 150,000 passengers already enchanted by Waymo's "magic," locals can finally experience the thrill of going from point A to B with all the excitement of a toaster on wheels. 🙄✨

For the first time in my life, I downloaded a ride-hailing app in May.
It didn’t take me long to see how they’re designed to give users a false sense of control that makes it easy to overlook their flaws and be discouraged from going back to using taxis.
How else have tech services changed how we see the world?

Traffic noises are deafening. My brain freezes whenever I leave the house. Never you mind the amount of pollution and heat that it generates.
Why would you create cities like that? A world like that? What's wrong with you?

There is no such thing as road rage, only shitty individuals that have no business driving on public roads and endangering others.
Walk, bike, use Public Transportation, hail a ride, or share a ride. Nobody wants you on the road. Nobody.

"Interest in driverless taxis has surged in recent months..."
Oh, has it? People come first, not AI and certainly not greedy corporations that won't pay taxes.
I hope everyone will do their part in teaching Uber a lesson they soon won't forget. These a-holes deserve to lose their 10 billion dollars.

The fact that people have accepted car deaths as being just a normal state of things is anything BUT normal. No, humans were never ever meant to die in car crashes.

"Uber is funneling tens of millions into a California ballot initiative that could make it harder for riders, pedestrians, and drivers to sue for damages after car crashes.
The measure could also limit consumers’ ability to take car manufacturers to court over defective parts. It is part of a broader multistate liability reform campaign Uber is backing ahead of its $1.25 billion plan to unleash robotaxis on a massive scale.
The California proposal, dubbed the “Protecting Automobile Accident Victims from Attorney Self-Dealing Act,” is slated for the November midterm election. It would require crash victims to keep 75 percent of their total settlement awards, leaving lawyers and hospitals to split the remaining 25 percent.
Uber has reportedly spent more than $30 million backing the initiative, which would apply to all automobile crash settlements in the state, not just those involving rideshare companies.
Supporters say the measure would put more money in victims’ pockets. But critics warn it could have the opposite effect, making it harder for car crash victims to find legal representation.
Many lawyers agree to take on such lawsuits on the condition that they will be paid only if their client wins. The 25 percent cap would not cover litigation costs in many cases, according to the California-based Dolan Law Firm, which helped craft the state’s rideshare insurance laws.
“If there is no viable way to be reimbursed, no firm can afford to cover these costs,” the firm wrote in a December blog post. “If attorneys cannot afford to take cases, victims lose access to legal representation.”"

《By integrating innovative on-demand technology into your city’s transit network, residents can get where they need to go for cheaper than driving a personal vehicle or using ride-sharing services like Uber, and with the assurance that they will arrive on time.》
It's great for the environment, too. 👍

Walk, bike, hail a ride, share a ride, use Public Transportation, install solar panels on your roof or balcony, investment in an EV if you can or want... Just actively say NO to Big Oil. We absolutely need to phase out fossils if we still want to have a planet.

India's cooperative ride-hailing platform Bharat Taxi has crossed 2.73 million downloads, according to Sensor Tower data. However, users have raised concerns about higher fares - around 20-30% more than Uber, Ola and Rapido for similar routes. The platform was launched by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in February 2026 and currently operates in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat. https://entrackr.com/news/bharat-taxi-crosses-27-mn-downloads-but-faces-pricing-concerns-11248096 #India #Tech #RideHailing #Startups

As if their DLSS5 AI slop nonsense wasn't enough, now Nvidia, together with the rotten CEO of Bolt, wants to put genAI on the roads, too. No, thank you! Not only is it incredibly dangerous, but it also undermines the thousands of ride-hailing drivers looking to earn a living. Screw this!

I like Bolt just fine. It certainly gets me from point A to point B. But its founder, Markus Villing, is quite the a-hole. The guy wants the European Union to allow him to employ self-driving AI-powered ride-hailing vehicles.
Obviously, a lot of drivers would find themselves without work. In this context, it wouldn't help the local economy. It would only help his own pockets.

"Uber says its background checks are essential for keeping passengers safe, promising that all of its drivers have passed a screening for violent crimes.
The claim, made in marketing materials, ignores a critical detail: The system approves people with many types of criminal convictions, including violent felonies. That is because Uber has limited the criteria used to vet potential drivers, part of a push to speed them onto the ride-hailing network while keeping costs down, a New York Times investigation found.
Uber rejects prospective drivers who have been convicted of murder, sexual assault, kidnapping and terrorism. But in 22 states, The Times found, the company approves people convicted of most other crimes — including child abuse, assault and stalking — so long as the convictions are at least seven years old.
There are also gaps in Uber’s screenings. Background checks in 35 states are based on where a person has lived in the past seven years. The result is that a crime that happened elsewhere could go unnoticed.
Over time, company executives considered and ultimately chose not to expand the types of offenses that would disqualify someone, according to internal documents reviewed by The Times.
They also debated how thoroughly to look back for convictions. “We are def not doing everything we can,” Brooke Anderson, then Uber’s head of safety communications, said in a 2018 email exchange about background checks."

Taxi + ride-hailing app services, run as platform co-ops in some places. But maybe councils could supply apps which aggregate rides from a range of vetted services? Including those that specialise in transporting the disabled?
It's akin to the way a competent council can supply public shopping areas, with a range of independently run food places All of which are inspected for anything that might poison you.
