I'm working on a system for fetching extra badges - I'm currently intending on using this for donor badges, though I could add more badges in the future.

as part of this, I've updated the privacy information document to explain what will be collected/stored + clarify and update a few things. I've also written a guide listing the different badges and what they mean.

I've opened a pull request with the changes - any feedback/suggestions are welcome :3

First of all, stoat.chat doesn't end to end messaging like matrix.

stoat.chat is like Discord but beta. I had encounter predatory behavior on stoat.chat. when I report it to the team it just when to void.

Stoat (formerly Revolt Chat) requires you to have an Google account in order to have their app installed. And their webchat is totally borked. Only usuable on a desktop computer or a laptop.

Ich musste ja meinen Kindern #discord erlauben, weil ALLE ihre Freunde sich dort treffen zum Ratschen, Daddeln, Hausis besprechen etc.
Aber heute verlangte Discord eine gültige Handynummer zur "Verification". 🤢 🤮

Als #alternative teste ich heute mal #stoat (aka #revolt #revoltchat) und #matrix. Mal sehen, wer das Rennen macht und ob wir "perspektivisch" was etablieren können in unserer Hometown. 💪

Ще там на андроїд є дві апки... Одна у репо на f-droid й фактично є відкривалкою вкладки у браузері але все працює... А та яка у плеймаркеті то я так й не зрозумів як зайти з неї у гч🤷

Ich glaube #Discord oder #revoltchat ist das kleinste Problem. Wobei das Projekt Interessant aussieht.

Meanwhile I learned about #RevoltChat / #Revolt and was going to dig in it's API (https://developers.revolt.chat/developers/api/reference.html#tag/core/GET/) but their CSS did fall flat and nothing was readable. A reader mode for this is not available and while it's probably possible to generate the API docs manually I really wasn't going to invest that much time on a preflight. It seems to be fixed as of today so it's still on my table.

IMHO it's doing the same mistake like Riot with the naming though.

Today I tried out #RevoltChat and #SpacebarChat, free and open source, selfhostable alternatives to #Discord. Neither of them "Just Work", even when following their documentation to the letter.

Revolt's setup doesn't include the voice server, since it is still a WIP, but without it, you can't have voice chat, the whole reason for having such a service in the first place.

Spacebar's setup comes with container images which are about a year old, and when asking about it in their Matrix channel, it turns out they don't support these anymore and that you shouldn't be using them.

Which leaves me to believe that in 2025, #Mumble is still the best voice chat available. The only downside is that the mumble-web project doesn't seem to work with the latest mumble server deployment, so there's no "easy" webui to use.

literally the only place I could think of that relates to Revolt to start discussion about this: revolt seems to be down because someone made the production clients use local.revolt.chat:8000 instead of the actual servers
