  9. Today I was given an #award at onsite EoY #informationsecurity award ceremony for work.

I was stunned. I am a #remote employee, in an organization with a diverse mix of remote (local) and remote employees. I'm non local to the area so never been able to attend happy hours or other small team/department events. As well as I have only recently been hired (around 6 months ago). So I wasn't expecting recognition of much.

I can't describe how much happiness it brought me not to get an award, but to be known that I am recognized and seen, even as a remote employee. I am so grateful for my current company and their super supportive culture.

    My personal opinions'/takeaways:

#Managers, recognize good work. #Appreciation does go a very long way for some people mentally. And it doesn't need to be awards, but just letting people under you of all ranks know that they are appreciated goes a long way. Nobody is too anything for #recognition as long as their doing great work. It helps them feel seen, included, and appreciated.

    #Employees (Especially #remoteworkers)
Join meetings and turn your camera on especially if you're new. I can't count how many people 'knew' me because there were a couple open lunches where I had my camera on and spoke or introduced myself. Flipside I didn't always recognize who they were though if their camera wasn't ever on.

I'm fortunate to have found this role and I'm grateful for the team members and managers I have.

  10. This morning I have on my #grandmother of a #deaf pre-teen hat. We live in a small town in north central #WashingtonState and my grandson needs an #asl interpreter. The school claims they cannot find anyone that will move here even though it’s obvious that #remoteWorkers are moving here in droves. It’s a beautiful area with a strong #community of #organic #farmers even though politics run red. Reaching out to broaden the search for an #ASLinterpreter

    "White Backs" FLOOD Mexico City

American tourists and remote workers are gentrifying some of Mexico City's most treasured neighborhoods. Backlash is growing.

Recently, expletive-laced English posters appeared around town:

“New to the city? Working remotely? You’re a f—ing plague and the locals f—ing hate you. Leave.”

"I’m starting to be worried. It’s great for business, but it’s also kind of scaring me.”
