Joille termi ei ole tuttu, niin poro ei voi virtsata juostessaan ja pysähdys on sille pakollinen. Matkan pituus on kai noin 7,5 kilometriä maastosta ja lumimäärästä riippuen. Poronkusemaa on käytetty Lapissa matkan mittana.
