  1. One thing I have to say: I only read like...the first few chapters of the first Redwall book, but I already know who the two mice and the rat are, although I can't remember their names.

But this goes to show that they're either depicted close enough in the show, or the book did a great job describing them. Well, it's both, I think!

Edit: The whole depiction in one corner of the rats riding on a horse carriage is actually exactly as I imagined it, so, that's cool!

  2. Considering introducing the little one to the #Redwall series of books. I understand there are strong opinions about reading them in chronological order vs the order they were published. What do you recommend reader? #books #parenting

  3. Kinda?

    Long answer…

I always loved stuff with anthro animals. Ever since I was a kid, I loved Sonic the Hedgehog, Redwall, Samurai Pizza Cats… But then, so do a lot of kids.

I remember though in the late 90s, I first got internet access (I was still pretty young at the time) and I found, when given access to basically anything, there were things I seemed to look at more than anything else - videogame discussions & FAQs, anime news and images…

… and one day, while browsing a site (I think it was "furry dot org"), I realised that I kept coming back time and time again to anthro characters, which at the time was mostly fan-art and people's OCs, and although I didn't have a name for it (the idea of "furry" as a subculture was a complete unknown to me) I realised I was a fan of this stuff.

Despite that, I didn't think of myself as a furry for the longest time, and in some ways, I still don't; which probably sounds weird coming from a furry vtuber. Maybe it's because I don't do fursuiting (not throwing shade on those who do, you do you - I actually love seeing you at cons etc.) but it's not something I've ever been into.

But I realised eventually that the culture is much wider than just that; it's not like some bar you need to get over, just like not every anime fan has read all of One Piece. You can just like something. You don't have to rationalise it.

    Short answer…

Somewhere between Rebecca Cunningham and Lola Bunny.

  4. More #BookBingo progress! Read 'Spear' by Nicola Griffith for the 'King Arthur' challenge. Beautiful queer retelling with a female Perceval. Then I got a bingo with the classic #Redwall by Brian Jacques, which has actually been adapted into a movie, in a roundabout way.

  5. Scott's review of Mariel of Redwall (Redwall, #4) - BookWyrm

Another great Redwall book. I had fun with Mariel, and the party she had. Also the rabbit trio including Rosie. The dibbons were lil' shits, but they were fun. And surprise double villains, kinda.

Tho, I will say, it is starting to feel a bit samesies. Some very familiar story beats being repeated. Not in a problematic way. I still have good fun with the...

  8. Emerging Through Red (by Yesor Graff in Morelia, Mexico)

This striking mural by Yesor Graff in Morelia, Mexico, captures a woman pushing through a torn red surface, as if breaking free from confinement. Her piercing green eyes contrast sharply with the deep red, evoking themes of resilience and transformation. The blade of grass between her lips hints at nature’s quiet defiance, a reminder of life’s persistence even in urban settings. The detailed realism of her face, combined with the illusion of a ruptured wall, makes this artwork both […]

  11. I just ordered "Redwall" books!

Let's see if the series is really so nice as several Furrys told me and if it can scratch my "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH" and "Small Saga" itch!

  12. Scott's review of Mattimeo - BookWyrm

Another fun book. Made more fun by a good audio-cast. Jacques does a great job of bringing the world alive. And it's a world with likeable people. It even is bringing the mid-evil world more understandable too.

I do wish that some of the species werent so evil. Like a good guy rat or weasel. There is a good guy owl here, which the last owl was ....

  13. Listening on Everand. And It's Another Full Cast Performance!

Very ready for more #Redwall stories. Always fun yet serious. And this time, it's a generation after the first. So some of my fav chars are back (Yay, Constance the badger). Tho I am going to have to catch up on things. It's been a while since this era of Mossflower. #Fantasy #books @[email protected]

  14. Okay, look: I know the creatures of #Redwall don't canonically have access to tomatoes, but surely we can agree that the base of real-world shrimp and hotroot soup should be something similar to a very spicy tortilla soup-style broth.
