check that. I think there may have actually been over 1000 people walking. They are still coming into the hall and they stretch all the way down road still
Final post a song #portalberni #ReconciliationDay #EveryChildMatters #tseshaht #Hupacasath #nuuchanulth

The marchers are almost here.
Lots of birds around. A seagull making more awake than he should lol. A bald eagle. And a Raven watching us from across the river#portalberni #ReconciliationDay #EveryChildMatters #tseshaht #Hupacasath #nuuchanulth

enjoying the rivers edge while we wait for the march. It started up river about 2km from here at the former site of the Alberni Indian Residential School.
The area across the Somass/Tsu'amaas River is a large estuary. Huge salmon habitat (chinook, coho, sockeye). It was also the location of the first settlers to get here (both Spanish and British)

Walked from my house to about the halfway point of the full march waiting for them to arrive. This is Victoria Quay, the Welcoming Figures and the Whaling Sculpture.
These are at the foot of Johnston Road / Highway 4 in #portalberni at the Tsu'amaas (Somass) River.
It smells of the ocean, and the end of the salmon run which might sound unpleasant, but it's not. :)

off to join the #ReconciliationDay march
wearing my #EveryChildMatters orange shirt and my cedar headband. And carrying the kids headbands in their absence. it's a perfect morning for a walk. Partly cloudy just a little cool in the air

Happy #DayOfReconciliation, South Africa!
Today, why not make the effort, and take the first step to reconcile with someone who's wrong you or whom you've wronged?
It doesn't matter whose fault it is, or who had the last word. Pick up the phone. Send that message. Make that call.
You can do it. I believe in you. I'm proud of you! ❤
