  1. Reaver Titan: Day 57

I think he’s done? You can always find more to tweak, but in general, I’m happy enough. Next time will be the full pictures and whatnot.

Anyway, on this, the last day, I finished highlighting up the display base. And had an Old Fashioned.

  2. Reaver Titan: Day 55/56

Spent about two days working on the toddler’s base. Combination of rolled out hexagon tiles, printed ruins, cork board, and some textured paint. Some magnets in the base should keep him standing.

  3. Reaver Titan: Day 52

Twas a striping few days. Counting this as “one day” as it was really over a few two hour sessions. Got all the black out on over the stripes on the shinguards and got all the hazard stripes blocked in.

The end is legitimately in sight.

  5. Reaver Titan: Day 51

Finished up the rest of the metallics and started painting up the fiddly doodads.

  6. Reaver Titan: Day 49

Relatively short day, but a critical step. Got all the oil washes down on the metal parts. This basically means I’m now ready to start gluing the final plates on as I finish them up. Also got the waist glued onto to the torso; the big guy is now quite stable.

  8. I feel like I’m probably two months out from being “done” with the Reaver. Ergo, it’s not too late to reflect on this ridiculous project. To whit: reflections on building my personal manifestation of the Omnissiah.

  9. Reaver Titan: Day 48

Went to a zen like place for NO REASON WHATSOEVER and got the trim knocked out. Also painted two crotch lenses (yes, those are a thing, one must be aware of who is standing underneath one’s butt plate) and three Ad Mech doo dads. #reavertitan

  11. Reaver Titan: Day 47

Started the great gold trim slog on the legs. I generally have to hit each trim piece twice with Retributor Gold to get the coverage I want. That means I’ve generally painted the trim four times. 😬

I’ll be quite happy to be done with this phase. Something about it is one heck of a mental hobby block.

  13. Reaver Titan: Day 45 + 46

Counting this as two days of hobbying, although it may have been three short days. Whatever!

Got all of the brown blocked in where gold will go down, and dry brushed all the silver metallic bits. Next: the great gold trim painting challenge. 😬

  14. Reaver Titan: Day 44

Decided to go to a zen like place and do a bunch of the first blocking in on the trim. Got all but a few of the various shinguards done. I’ll probably interleave a few other models in between the steps here for sanity’s sake.

  15. Reaver Titan: Day 43

After a full week of staring at the resin toddler and doing literally everything but pull out the Abaddon Black, I went to town on him this evening and got all the future silver metal parts blocked in with black. Yay.

  16. Reaver Titan: Day 41

This was a bit of a nerve wracking g day. First, I’ve been frustrated by the head placement - the magnet on the neck was just slightly off center, causing g the top carapace to damage the paint on the head. Carefully I dug out the magnet and redrilled the placement. Lesson leaned: measure three times cut once.

I then free handed the Legio honorum insignia on the shield. The top carapace is totally done! #reavertitan

  18. Reaver Titan: Day 40

Pretty productive day, somewhat split between yesterday and and hour or so today. Got the shoulders finished up, the torso, and most of the carapace top. #reavertitan

  19. Have you heard about our lord and savior, the Omnissiah?

Really happy with his robes. Alas, I’m not sure with the base that he’s going to fit in the Titan compartment. Oops!

  20. Reaver Titan: Day 39

Started on the main carapace. This is the last of the interior bits, and also the easiest to see since it’s on the removable piece, so I’m having fun painting the last body horror. Nothing says “we’re the good guys” like dismembered torsos wired into your walking machine gods.

Also varnished up some palette cleansers. Including I think one of my oldest models - this little Techmarine has been with me since at least 96. Time to get him painted 😅

  21. Reaver Titan: Day 37

Light hobby weekend. Decided to switch and work on the missile launcher so I can get the 20 or so missiles glued in.

    #reavertitan

  22. Reaver Titan: Day 36

Lots of progress on the body. I did discover that both the head and inner pieces are bent just enough that things are going to scrape a bit when assembled. That’s a bit disappointing but I’m not going to sweat it too much. Just means the interior will be hidden more often than not. 😅

    #reavertitan

  23. Reaver Titan: Day 35

Pretty much finished up the interior, crew, and head. Need to let things dry a bit and assemble, but my super glue apparently dried out in the last month. Oh well; will get the assembly done next week. Major stuff done:
    - chipping effect on the interior
    - last control panel finished
    - eye lenses
    - princeps head

    #reavertitan

  24. Reaver Titan: Day 33

Chipping away at the interior. Finished blocking in all the major colors on the head, neck, and body. Got an oil wash down on the head and neck. Pretty happy with the look, particularly on the dry brushed neck exterior.

    #reavertitan

  25. Reaver Titan: Day 32

Started painting up the crew. Lots of detail on these little guys.

    #reavertitan

  26. Reaver Titan: Day 31

Things that went well: the masking tape did its job, the final tweaking of red went well and the red looks exactly how I wanted it to look

Things that did not go well: getting my finger in gold paint and smudging the black gradient on the helmet. Shit. Going to need to re-gradient that. ☹️

    #reavertitan

  27. Reaver Titan: Day 30

So: today was the day that would tell me if all the gradients, panel lining, and combo of yellow plus Blood Angels red contrast would pan out.

    Darcy Bono knows her stuff.

Very thrilled with the end result. Probably the most saturated red I’ve ever gotten.

In between spray sessions went ahead and started the head. It’s a little flat right now but the oil shading should give it the right depth.

    #reavertitan

  28. Reaver Titan: Day 29

In the home stretch now for airbrushing (he says with reckless optimism). Got all the parts sprayed with Cassandra Yellow. Tomorrow I’ll hit it with red contrast. Never used this particular combo before, but Darcy Bono recommended it for a nice saturated red, which is what I’m going for.

    #reavertitan

  29. Reaver Titan: Day 28

Got the black panel lining cleaned up - think I went through a dozen makeup removers cleaning off the excess oil paint - then got about half of the panels sprayed with yellow ink. Had to stop due to condensation build up in the compressor.

    #reavertitan

  30. Reaver Titan: Day 27

Airbrushed blue/gray highlights on the black pieces, varnished the armor plates, then did an oil groove wash.

    #reavertitan

  31. Reaver Titan: Day 25/26

Back to air brushing. This time it was getting the gradient white laid down. As expected, the legs were a bit of a bear; trying to get all the fiddly angles took awhile, but I’m happy with the result. Next step: shellacking it with some varnish followed by pin washing it with black oil wash.

  33. Reaver Titan: Day 22

Got the priming (mostly) done! I know I’m going to have to switch to brush on primer to get to the really hard to reach nooks and crannies, but the big spray job of black is there. I imagine that will take a few days. Once I’ve got him fully covered, it will be on to the white ink for radial / gradient shading (~2 days); a spray of varnish followed by black panel lining (~3 days); then yellow under color on armor (1 day) and finally red (1 day).

    #reavertitan

  34. Reaver Titan: Day 21

Let the priming begin! I can only run the compressor for about 45 min before condensation build-up starts shooting water out the hose, so this was the result after two passes. It’s a start at least!

    #reavertitan

  35. So! Today got the shoulders pinned and welded, and magnetized the void shields. I really like that idea - thanks to cruorangelussilicis on YouTube - as you can pop them off when the shields get knocked down.

Also did some more priming. I clearly missed some resin release on the parts my toothbrush missed - I think it will be okay as the primer usually takes and this is mostly stuff that will be hidden. I scrubbed the big panels pretty well… so hopefully it doesn’t happen there.

  36. Reaver Titan: Day 8

This is one of those times where I have to remind myself that I paid a lot of good money to have a bunch of pieces come nowhere close to fitting. Highlights of the insanity: 1/ gluing the back together only to discover the body is too wide and have to break it apart and do it again, losing any hope of detailing that part of the interior; 2/ gluing brackets on the shinguards 5 times and still not having them align.

    Tomorrow is another day. #reavertitan
