Success! My local Woolworths is now supplying Rainforest Alliance bananas, as advertised!
I'm not sure how many of you helped make this happen by getting free bananas or telling your friends or whatever, but thank you to those who did!

We got free bananas again this month, because Woolworths in High Street, Lower Hutt again supplied Bonita bananas instead of the Rainforest Alliance ones they advertised and accepted my order for. Things I'm curious to know:
Is it just that store, or is the problem more widespread? (Please boost for visibility.) Even if you normally shop in person, if you don't see any Rainforest Alliance bananas (with the frog logo) in the store, I'm guessing they're not supplying Rainforest Alliance bananas to online customers, either.
How many free bananas will they give away before they stop this false advertising?

Do you buy bananas online from Woolworths in New Zealand? Their listing for "Fresh Fruit Bananas Yellow" specifies that they're Rainforest Alliance bananas. In Woodworths's description, they say:
Rainforest Alliance is an international non-profit organization working at the intersection of business, agriculture, and forests to make responsible business the new normal. Aims to protect forests, improve the livelihoods of farmers and forest communities, promote their human rights, and help them mitigate and adapt to the climate crisis. The Rainforest Alliance certification seal means that the product (or a specified ingredient) was produced by farmers, foresters, and/or companies working together to create a world where people and nature thrive in harmony.

Unfortunately, the bananas they actually delivered were Bonita bananas. I tried to find evidence that Bonita was Rainforest Alliance certified, but could find none, so I strongly suspect they aren't. To Woolworths's credit, when I complained, they did agree to give me a refund for the bananas.
But this isn't the first time this has happened. I took the precaution of specifying in the notes in my order that the only acceptable substitute for Rainforest Alliance bananas would be Fair Trade bananas, but in the end, the substitution wasn't even marked as a substitution on my packing slip.
If you've ordered fresh yellow bananas online from Woolworths in Aotearoa recently, and they gave you Bonita bananas instead of Rainforest Alliance ones, I recommend you ask for a refund. If enough people do this, they might stop this substitution.

If you live in Australia, and you're buying chocolate for Christmas, you might wanna check out Haigh's chocolates online because:
a) their chocolate is very tasty;
b) their chocolate uses Rainforest Alliance certified cocoa;
c) they donate money to help the native Australian Bilby, a cute little marsupial animal on the verge of extinction;
d) a lot of their products are clearly labelled as glutenfree and eggfree;
I don't have any association with Haigh's except buying their chocolate and nobody gave me anything to make this post.
