Hey #DJ's! Where do you get music from? Do you just buy singles or go for the full album?

What hardware do you use?

I plan on going full out with an older #rackmount compressor and EQ. Totally overboard with a moderately expensive broadcast mic. The other usecase is livestreaming the events, plus broadcasting #InternetRadio. Ideally with a XMPP chatroom and DJs beside myself talking between songs like on good FM.

I need to build up a solid offline collection so I can start spinning in #GothClubs.

I saw some #rackmount 31 band EQs that have #MIDI that were made in the 80's and 90's. The ones currently in production do not. It feels like we've taken a step back. 🤨

Granted, there are two fantastic digital #effectsPedals that do and have more features than anything else. (Aside from the #Cranborne Carnaby he2 that has USB for #DAW control and saturates boosted frequency bands.)

*shrug*

On one… foot, I like the idea of *utilities* being in a rack. My other foot doesn't care and just wants to easily swap between presets.

I've been looking through my Docs folder at the PDF for so long I totally forgot which I was originally trying to find. 😵‍💫

Oh. I needed a reminder about what that #Behringer Ultramizer Pro rack unit does. It seems like a digital all utility piece.

I'm not sure why there aren't more of these because exactly what I want is one robust rack unit that handles gating, limiting, compression, equalizing, stereo widening, and tuning because why not. lol. With #MIDI. The point of #rackmount gear is that it is more powerful than pedals.

Free to a good home: A Mac G4 in a Marathon rackmount case. It has a serial port, Zip drive, SCSI card, and two DIMMs of RAM. We forgot to take the PRAM battery out, but fortunately it didn't leak. 😅

Got a #Supermicro server in 2U 12 bay case, but a dual Xeon board in it is too power-hungry for my modest NAS needs. Got an Atom C3000 based Supermicro board - the current task at hand is to swap the boards and figure out cabling.

Ok, finally got it into the rack! It's not sitting flush for some reason but that's a problem for another day. First things first, #unraid! Got it installed and it's now doing a parity sync.

I set it up immediately with 2 parities, 1 data disk, and then the 2x 4TB nvme drives as the cache in mirror. Still over a day for the initial sync but I've got time 😄

Once it's done I'll change the server name, set a static IP and finally an NFS mount so I can connect this to my #Nomad cluster.

Another blunder of mine.. my supposedly 55cm deep custom rack is.. well not 55cm deep. It’s 52.5. So of course my Density.sk rails don’t fit as they’re spec’d for precisely 55cm as a min.

I suppose I’ll just jimmy something together but this is not my first measure once cut twice moment in this build 🤦‍♂️

Ok, it boots! Phew 😅

Unfortunately still waiting on the USB 2.0 drive and the 3 initial SATA disks. But it starts fine, is pretty quiet and looks slick with the case closed. Will get it rack mounted next while I wait 😁

Server rack arrived today. Nothing special, just a 12U open frame rack. Got it assembled and was hoping to get everything installed but didn’t have any screws and cage nuts 🙈

Screws should arrive Thursday, just in time for our fiber install.

My Sliger case arrived from density.sk! It looks fantastic.

It’s a 3U half-metre deep rack mount chassis with 10x 3.5” HDD support, perfect for my shallow rack. It’ll be the base of my new #NAS, housing (eventually) 10x 28TB SATA drives on #unraid. I’d highly recommend checking out their cases if you’re in the market for a good quality rack case.

I think I might just forget getting any #bass amps.

I might do two #Tech21NYC Sansamp #rackmount pre-amps. One of which might be the Geddy Lee model? That one's got some nice grit. Along w/ the rest of my rack gear, #pedalboards, and PAspeakers! There seems to be some good PA subwoofers out there that can do 20hz but, I gotta see more specs.

I want to hit 20hz b/c I can. Got that 6-string #bassGuitar in drop E. Could use a HPF pedal to toggle those freqs.
