Facing racism 1st time is not different with facing sexual harassment 1st time: you are confused, "Was that just me being too sensitive or was that something I should be angry about?"
Then, you have to deal with this lonely confusion for a while, not sure if you have to fight or flee.
You are not used with the anger, so first you choose to be silent.
But you actually feel the anger. You just don't want to hear the invalidation when you put the anger out.
