I wrote a bit about what went on at the recent Python Core Sprint at #Arm in Cambridge, plus some bonus @PyConUK highlights.

🎭✨ The world premiere of Ada — a rehearsed reading written by Emily Holyoake & performed by Chronic Insanity — is available to watch on YouTube!
Catch it here 👉 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtrsssksCNUEmily also shared her inspiration & writing process in a brilliant blog post:
You can find that here 👉 https://2025.pyconuk.org/2025/09/staging-ada-at-pycon2025/💜 Huge thanks to Emily and the Chronic Insanity team for this extra-special event 🐍

One more #PyConUK post, this time on my blog, about my conference experience (it was great) and the talks I enjoyed: https://quanttype.net/posts/2025-09-29-pycon-uk-2025.html

[This happened already and was recorded. Description from the YT recording]
«This year at PyCon UK, you’re warmly invited to a world premiere: Ada, a brand-new play inspired by Ada Lovelace, written by Emily Holyoake, and staged as a rehearsed reading by Nottingham-based theatre company Chronic Insanity
'You may turn the handle, and I will whirr and calculate without error!'
Decades before the first computers are built, Ada imagines machines that can do anything, even compose beautiful pieces of music. Far beyond Ada’s future, a learning machine called Ginny breaks free of her routine and tests the boundaries of what ought to be possible.
Ada is an intricate re-telling of the life and legacy of Ada Lovelace, pioneer of computing, paralleling her history with a contemporary story about the potential of artificial intelligence.
Cast and Crew:
Ada: Ruth Page
Babbage: Jamie Richard-Stewart
Lady Byron/Anna: Lynne Payne
Ginny: Natalie Patuzzo
Jasper: Ben Gilbert» -
Another highlight from #PyConUK!
Katie Bickford gives a junior's perspective on doing difficult things. Contains advice for both junior developers *and* (importantly) the senior developers working with them! This is a topic that doesn't normally get enough airtime.

On my way back from #PyConUK with the usual full heart/empty head that I tend to have after Python conferences.
My biggest fear was to give a keynote only for my friends so it was a big relieve that the positive feedback came truly from all sides. Different ages, experience, use-cases, … 1/4

@PyConUK This was a very good talk. An important topic and very well and understandable explained. Thank you! :-)

#PyConUK started a bit slow for me but ended up really good. Gave a talk on extending Python with Rust (with PyO3/Maturin/rustimport) and a lightning talk about an old blog post of mine. Met a number of Internet friends in person for the first time and a bunch of new ones.
What I really liked was the warm and welcoming community spirit - reminds me of the very special @heartofclojure conference.

After #PyConUK, I went for a walk in the Peak District. I love the austere, wind-swept tops of the hills, and climbing up a rocky path along a brook provided suitable amount of athletic challenge.

PyCon UK fixed my toilet.
If your fill valve is topping up your cistern every couple of hours, try turning off the water and visiting a Python conference for a few days. When you get home note the empty cistern and turn the water back on. The problem may have resolved itself. -
Good keynote by @hynek . Can recommend. 👌 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDvwRpl9erE

Our waiter just lost a bet because he thought we’re a Dungeons & Dragons group. #PyConUK

#PyConUK is one of the best executed conferences I’ve ever attended. 😮

Manchester Museum hosts a number of frogs and reptiles. I went there yesterday and had a lot of fun observing them. Here's one, a magnificient tree frog.
#PyConUK folks, the museum is close to the venue and the entry is free, so if you need a break activity, you can go look at the frogs.

🐍🏃➡️🏃➡️🏃➡️🏃➡️ #Python #CoreSprint day 4!
Finally, time for the 3.14.0rc3 release: originally planned for Tuesday, moved to Wednesday to better fit the schedule, moved to Thursday to give the SC an extra day to decide on a potential revert. Next RM @savannah.dev joined in to watch the process and ask questions. 🥧
Then a quick core․py recording with Pablo and @ambv before heading up to Manchester for #PyConUK! 🐝
Thanks again to Diego Russo and Arm for hosting us! 🦾

Since #PyConUK has its AV on point, my keynote yesterday is already live on YouTube.
I don't want to say/spoil anything about it, except that it's the first real keynote I've ever written, it encompasses almost 20 years of writing Python, the feedback has been phenomenal, and that you should watch it (and come to the next PyCon UK): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDvwRpl9erE

Fortunately, @Felienne is joking!
-
Surely a good sign that my #PyConUK room number is 502. Nothing to do with the conference or any software they are using, I'm sure...
-
On my way to Manchester, settling in for a long train journey to #PyConUK
Super looking forward to finally attending my favourite Python conference again!
